5.0 out of 5 stars History told the way it was 30 Dec 2011

I got this book for my Mum, who lived through the blitz in the Portsmouth area, and she says it is spot on.

The title 'The Shattered City' is absolutely right, sadly, and the book shows the scale of the devastation suffered on Portsea Island. Fascinating stuff. Other books on Portsmouth during the war are also very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Book 26 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Packed with quite interesting information, this little book is brilliant for anyone living in or visiting this fine island city. It fits comfortably in the pocket. if anything i would have liked some colour photographs and more maps, but their lack is in no way a criticism. The author clearly loves Portsmouth. Warmly recommended.

I bought this as a bithday present for an 85 year old lady born in Portsmouth but living in London for 50 odd years. She absolutely loves it and is getting so much joy from the photographs and the memories they are bringing her. I recommend this book 100%. I have also bought other titles from the Britain in old Photographs and would recommend all.

A very readable collection of facts related to Portsmouth - some known, others less known, and some amusing as well
