About the Author
JOHN SADDEN is Portsmouth born and bred and attended Southern Grammar School. He gained a first class honours degree as a mature student, then qualified as a chartered librarian. As well as writing local history books, he is a published children's novelist (under the pseudonym John Sedden) and is the archivist at the city's oldest school, the Portsmouth Grammar School.

I got this book for my Mum, who lived through the blitz in the Portsmouth area, and she says it is spot on.
The title 'The Shattered City' is absolutely right, sadly, and the book shows the scale of the devastation suffered on Portsea Island. Fascinating stuff. Other books on Portsmouth during the war are also very good.

I bought this as a bithday present for an 85 year old lady born in Portsmouth but living in London for 50 odd years. She absolutely loves it and is getting so much joy from the photographs and the memories they are bringing her. I recommend this book 100%. I have also bought other titles from the Britain in old Photographs and would recommend all.
