3.0 out of 5 stars A comedy of pretensions 4 Sep 2011
Format:DVD
A distinguished cast is led by Helena Bonham Carter showing off her French in this tale of wannabes and think-they-ares around and within the Paris couture industry. You wonder how many of they function, let alone survive, but there is a certain charm and the whole is enhanced by the exquisite Elsa Zylberstein. Not taxing but quite an enjoyable time to be had.

4.0 out of 5 stars French feel good movie about relationships 21 Nov 2009
By P. Millar VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
A fun, French movie about the life and loves of a group of artistic Parisian friends. As is usual with most French films it concentrates more on character than plot and has some good observations on sex, life and love. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes romantic comedies and is not put off by subtitles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect French Romantic Comedy 4 Jan 2004
By Dorion Sagan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
This is a wonderful, subtly deep romantic comedy about a group of film makers and fashion designers in Paris. With interesting, fully developed characters, no violence and real sex, it is the kind of thing Hollywood would remake poorly (e.g., compare Abre Los Ojos with Vanilla Sky) if they could--but they can't. Abortion, infidelity, "feminism" vs. "misogyny," the craving for recognition and fame--and their difference from the search for true art and love are all handled with a most delicate touch.

This is a not so interesting movie completely redeemed by a wonderful performance by Helena Bonham Carter. She's beautiful, heartbreaking, funny and oh how she can speak french!!!
