This item could not detect a nail in the thinest of timber, item returned weeks ago and still no replacement.
I bought one of these to pinpoint whilst metal detecting. I had a similar thing that cost me £95. I was a bit short of money so I sold the one I had and bought one of these Gold Century's. It is doing me proud. When I have dug my first clod, I then run the Gold Century around the clod and the hole and immediately find the item. It is very powerful and has saved me hours of back breaking digging. It is a little bit large for what I use it for. And the only other drawback is the end of the probe does not detect. It is only the front and back that detect. Apart from that and especially at less than a third of the price of my last one, I am delighted with it.
