Product Description

Size: 6000mAh + 1.2W Solar

Product Description

This is a solar panel with built in battery pack. It uses a 1.2 Watt (240mA) monocrystalline panel using the latest generation of 22% high efficiency panel, resulting in a smaller package with better performance in low light. It is designed to be charged from a USB socket and topped up in sunny weather to extend battery life, but the panel is not large enough to let you rely purely on sunlight to power a device. Most similar size solar packs have a smaller solar panel with less than 1 Watt / 200mA of power, many do not even state the power of the panel.

Built-in 6000mAh battery - this can be fully charged in as little as 8 hours from a mains socket This stores enough power to fully charge most smartphones 2-3x, and also works with satnavs, Bluetooth devices and other small gadgets. It can be used with a partial charge and while its being charged from the panel, will keep its charge for over 6 months and can be recharged 500+ times. 4 LEDs let you know how much power is remaining in the pack.

Compatibility Since the pack uses a universal-spec USB socket, it can charge almost any device which charges from a USB socket or 5V mains charger. This includes all iPhones, Smartphones from Samsung, HTC, Nokia, Etc, and satnavs from Tomtom, Garmin, Etc. A USB cable with Apple, Micro USB and Mini USB connectors is included to charge the battery and your devices, you can also use the USB cable supplied with your device.

Specifications 1.2 Watt (5V 240mA) 22% Efficiency monocrystalline panel, Micro USB input, 2100mA USB output, 6000mAh Li-Polymer battery, 186g weight, 12.7cm x 8cm x 1.6cm, 100cm USB Cable.

Alternatives - This charger uses a relatively large battery with a relatively small solar panel, designed to be charged from a mains socket and topped up in sunny weather to extend battery life. PortaPow offers a range of products for different scenarios:

PortaPow Battery Packs - no solar panel, just a battery pack. If you're not expecting much Sun.

PortaPow 6000mAh Battery + 1.2W Solar Panel - If you want a high capacity battery with a top up from sunlight.

PortaPow 3000mAh Battery + 3W Solar Panel - Lets you rely on sunny weather with a top up from a mains charger.

PortaPow Solar Panels - A range of high power panels starting from 3 Watts to charge your gadgets directly from the Sun, a much lighter and more efficient design than charging via a battery pack resulting in faster charging. You can still use battery pack to store power till its needed.

In the box came the power bank, and the instructions, unlike most power banks you do not get a charging cable as the Portapow power bank has a nice integrated charging cable mounted into the body of the unit.

The power bank in white looks very nice and has 4 evenly spaced LED's which light up momentarily to show the state of charge left in the power bank, and light up permanently when the device you have chosen to power from the bank is connected.

In common with most other makes of power banks the power bank switches itself off when it senses no current being drawn on its outputs ie. the phone/ipad, tablet .... are fully charged.

The power bank has a generous 10200 mAh battery, and is almost the same size as my Nokia Windows Phone dimensions 17x 66 x 135mm and weighs 225g and easily fits in your pocket.

The power bank has 3 port, a micro USB port for charging and two standard USB ports 1 amp and a generous 2.4 amp out the power button is on the top of the power bank.

What is not obvious is that the 2.4 amp output also serves as the retainer for the built in power lead, which is grey and is a snug fit in the case when not is use, excellent.

Whilst the cable can be used for charging the unit, equally when reversed it can be used to charge your designated bit of kit, assuming that is has a micro USB charging port.

I tested the voltage out of the unit and found it gave 5.17 Volts on no load and happily charged my Windows Phone from 0 to 100% with plenty of capacity to spare.

I also tested it with various devices, , Ipad and Asus Tablet and all took charge with no issue.

This does exactly what I wanted. Combined it with an 11W solar panel it will power my raspberry pi whilst topping up charge from the panel. When the power drops too low, the PI switches off and the battery keeps charging. When the charge is high enough (or the power from the panel is enough for both) then the PI switches back on,
    Brilliant.

A very useful gadget if away from a power source. This gives me an extra good few hours play. BE aware however the connections they send with the battery are poorly made I just use my kindle connections it works fine. I wouldn't want to be without it now.

Doesn't quite charge up as fast as we expected, however it does exactly what it says on the tin. My husband's older Nokia phone will not charge with the adaptor provided, but other than that we have charged a blackberry, kindle, ipad, sony xperia and ipod with the various adaptors. Great for a recent holiday where there was no power where we were staying

Bought in combination with a 11W PortaPow solar charger as going to Glastonbury so wanted to be able to charge phone.

    Pros -
Battery looks great and is really easy to use -- has a cable build into the case for charging the battery from the mains but this can also be used to charge your device -- its a slim samsung USB.

It worked really well as a combination with the Portapow 11w solar panel- I could leave the solar panel charging the battery through the day by leaving it in the porch of my tent so I could just come back and top up my phone every night.

    Cons
Not really a con but I'd suggest buying a battery with a larger capacity if you need something to use over a extended period say 2 plus days without access to mains charging and are not going to buy the solar panel as well. If you really just need something to cover a couple of days without charge its perfect though. To put it in perspective a fully charge unit charged by Ipad from 7% - 75% and a half charged unit could do a full charge on my phone.

In years of purchasing stuffs from Amazon, this is my very first product review and this alone should tell everything about how brilliant this little portable battery is. I took it with me to my recent trip to India and Nepal, and this came in particularly handy in Nepal where there is hours of power cuts every day. It came fully charged, so I just packed it with me and was enough to fully charge my iPhone at least 4 times before I had to charge it again. I actually bought it to take to the field in Madagascar early next year so my recent trip gave me the perfect opportunity to test it out, and I'm very happy to say it worked beyond my expectations. I now plan to buy another piece before I go on my next trip. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a slim portable battery charger that works as it is supposed to.

This power pack is a great little bit of kit, i keep it in my works bag and it can charge my ipad mini and my mobile phone at the same time from 1 charge.

its a good size for the battery power it has, its like a long box of cigarettes and all the ports are accessible and it feels well built.

I have also purchased the solar charger kit to go with this and they work together really well, giving me FREE power (when its sunny)

Very happy overall, will buy another if this one breaks or i loose it.
