(1) The sharing switch is cute, small & light weight. It comes with a mini CD driver & so called instruction sheet which is written in Chinese & so called "English", I mean if you can understand what it says because the "English" instructions are directly translated using some kind of direct Chinese to English translation software (mind you you can't blame the Chinese manufacturer because English is not their mother language & the product is cheap)!! & I would give it 5 stars if:
(a) The qualiy of mini CD driver is better because I have to try quite a few times to get it to be read properly by the PC CDROM drive &
(b) If the instruction sheet was written in proper English.

(2) The switch does work easily & conveniently & I can now enjoy sharing the printing from my USB printer (HP Laerjet 1018)from either of my 2 PC connected to the switch.
Follows are what I did & observed for the installation (totally you need 3 pcs of USB printer cables): (note: please type exactly as the follows for a installation "Readme" file from internet--
file:///C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Documents/USB 2.0 Sharing Device CDROM Driver/ReadMe.htm

(i) Install the printer device driver to each PC & test if can print when directly connected to usb printer without the sharing switch.
(ii) Power off the printer, unplug all usb cables; install the sharing switch mini CD driver onto the 1st PC & once ok, connect one usb printer cable to one port of switch & to 1st PC usb port & 2nd USB printer cable from sharing switch to printer. At once you will see the switch port connected to has Red light on & also there is an Orange ball appeared on taskbar (right bottom corner) & also an related "USB sharing" icon in desktop.
(iii) Now reboot your 1st PC & power on your printer & once PC is up you can see the Orange ball becomes Green means the switch is connected to the printer & is ready to print. Try some test printing. If ok, install mini-CD driver onto 2nd PC while keeping 1st PC & printer on. Connect the 3rd usb printer cable to other port of switch & to 2nd PC usb port.Reboot 2nd PC & once up you can see Orange ball in task bar & also "USB sharing" icon in desktop. Now you can test print on 2nd PC by right click the Orange ball & choose "switch" & the ball change to Green at once & the Red light on switch also change to other port & you can do test print.
[Note: if not print you can check status of printer if ready --> control panel--> printer & faxes & you can see the status of printer]
(iv) Try test print from differnt PC by switching (either by right click the Orange ball in task bar or manually by pressing the buttons on the sharing switch.

Since the quality of mini driver CD is no good, what I did was to copy all the folders & files of the mini driver CD onto one empty folder in both my PC in case I lost the mini CD or could not run from it again.

We had an urgent need to share a USB device. This fitted the bill and wasn't expensive. It was easy to use at a basic manual level and did the job whilst it was needed. Cannot comment on it's further usefulness as the drivers came on a mini CD which our drives can't take and the instructions were a joke! They appear to have been translated from the Chinese (printed on the reverse) using Babelfish or a similar service. They caused immense hilarity when I posted them on a technical forum and challenged the members to work out what they were for. They failed! Even knowing what they were for and what the likely steps would be to install the drivers it was still impossible to make any sense of them. Shame really I think it could have other uses.

Purchased for a friend. She has been very pleased that she can easily access her printer from either of her two PCs. Price is also attractive

Does the job - what more can I say?
Good product at a good price, does the job perfectly. You can spend more on automatic switches but for the price this is very good.

It is somewhat quite good, but switching has to be done by hand, and not auto as it is indicated in the manual. Read more
