The low score, in my case, due to the device that I purchased not being compatible with the turn of the century P4 and PIII I use with the year 2000 dated Win 98SE. It did a bit better with the XP on my P4.

Install the card, suddenly I felt a need to change my motherboards and that seems likely due to effects of the Win 98 driver, a guess. That comes for damage limiting Norton Utilities on channel 1 on my current HD expansion cards when in Win98, the bug was not noticeable with XP.

My card was made by a Chinese company, using VIA components, so I had expected better.

The 4 port refers to two independent SATA 1 ports, one channel mirrored to allow an external drive or an internal. It is compatible with SATA 2 because SATA 2 has a compatibility with SATA 1. There is also a PATA IDE port, allowing up to 2 additional PATA drives.

I found that after I put in a Silicon Image Sil 3114 based sata card that the bug with Norton Utilities cleared. My P4 is now working properly again, in both Win98 and XP.

Having recived this card I now realise this is two port SATA card. One of the ports can be connected internerally or externally. The "fourth" port is an IDE port.

Seems like a pretty deceptive product name to me.
