One of the new type of glossy-page motorsport picturebooks that seem to be appearing in quick succession of late. Great photos throughout, not that much text (and though I haven't read the whole thing yet, with a few sloppy errors - for example, one of the very first picture captions, on the Introduction page, says that Porsche won Le Mans with the 908/80 in 1980 - plain wrong!) Coverage of the older cars - 917, 935, 956 etc, is great, but for me there were too many of the later ones from roughly the turn of the century onwards - GT3s mostly, sometimes several pics of the same car on the same page - which kind of clashes with the earlier chapters where individual cars are lucky to get a pic apiece (though I appreciate that LM nowadays is smothered with photographers in a way it never was in earlier times when photo film was expensive). Nevertheless, a great book for Porsche afficionados (still, Bill Ousler's are better) with loads of good content, including results tables showing all the Porsches (but none of the other runners) ever to compete at La Sarthe. Porsche nuts will get it anyway, but can I recommend it to a more general motorsport enthusiast? Hmm, maybe, maybe not... Yes, just about.
