3.0 out of 5 stars Good in places - but repetitive, 29 Nov 2002

The Buyers Guide is geared towards USA specification cars and does not really add a great deal of value over, say, 911 and Porsche World buyer's guides. All of the photographs are of american cars with lots of emission control bits and bobs. I was also disappointed that the narrative kept refering to previous models ... e.g. "oil lines problems as per 1987" when looking at a 1988 spec car.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too dissuasive, 15 July 2004
This review is from: Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide (Paperback)
I'm glad I started to read this book after I bought my 911, otherwise I would never have bought the car. The book's approach to buying is "If the car has problem x, then thank the seller and walk away". The car I bought had many of the problems which the book mentioned, but my local garage solved most of them in a day and for less than 1000 euros/600 pounds/1000 dollars. I found the book to be an excellent guide to the different models and their differences, but the buying recommendations seem too stringent.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must!!, 1 Oct 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide (Paperback)
Get off the web sites and get yourself a copy of this book if you are considering buying a 911. It two hours you will learn more than if you read 25 magazines. There is a year-by-year review of each model year. It points out the pros and cons, what to look for, what is should cost. This puppy is jam packed with helpful color photos (e.g. where rust spots might develop), but the spec charts are what really help. Check it out and you will end up in the right 911 for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eexcellent reference book for any Porsche 911 buyer or owner, 25 Sep 2002
By P. Lech - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide (Paperback)
The author gives a thorough review of the 911 models, with a chapter devoted to each year. Idiosyncrasies and problems with each year are noted. An excellent tool for the first time buyer or someone moving up to newer model of 911. This is a good companion to Patrick Paternie's Porsche Redbook.
