Product Description

Product Description

In this Collector's Guide, Michael Cotton - the renowned Porsche historian and author - has applied his deep knowledge of the marque to the most affordable of all Porsches, the four-cylinder front-engined cars. Porsche 924, 944 & 968 is a comprehensive guide to all of Porche's small four-seater coupes, from the original 2-litre 924 of 1975, through the 2.5-litre 944 of 1981 and the turbocharged version of this model which followed in 1985, and on to their successors, the highly sought after 968 range, which was introduced in 1991. This final series was developed over the next four years with both coupe and cabriolet bodies and progressively larger and more powerful naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines, until finally over 325,000 of Porsche's small front-engined cars had been manufactured during their 20-year production life.

A more technically detailed view of the cars than the Original 924/944/968 Peter Morgan book, and as such makes an excellent companion to it. A very easy to read and comprehensive summary of the model range as well as their history both on the road and track. The data sections are particularly useful when looking at choosing and buying. A bit unglamorous in terms of the quality of the book itself and the photography, however at the price it is still a truly excellent purchase for the enthusiast.

For enthusiasts! 10 Mar 2010
By Rasmus K. Weinhardt VINE™ VOICE
No, this is NOT another coffee table book!!! All pictures are in black and white and the A5 size format means they are not particular big either...BUT it is possibly the most in detail account of the development and history of the Porsche Transaxle 4 cylinder cars!
Originally published in 1990 Michael Cotton thouroughly revised and updated the book in 2000 to include the crown of creation: The 968!
He describes in great detail the ultra-rare 924 Carrera GT/GTS/GTR cars which with up to 345HP were the most powerfull 4 cylinders ever made!!! There are even pictures of the Carrera GT engine that I have never seen anyehere else and disregarding the size, the photos are quite sharp and clear.
This book is such a source of information about the "Best handling, most balanced sports cars ever made" that it is an absolute must for every Porsche enthusiast... Yes every one, including you 911 fans out there! After all Michael Cotton rightly points out that for the first 15 years Porsche only built 4 cylinder cars and you wouldn't call the 356 "Not a real Porsche" just because it had VW Beetle engine, would you?
If you are a REAL Porsche enthusiast, this book is for you!

An excellent introduction to this popular Porsche 19 Aug 2000
By Philippe Holland - Published on Amazon.com
This book is packed with useful information and facts about the Porsche 924, 944 and 968. Do not let the small format of the book put you off as it is a real mine of information. Michael Cotton's writing style is fluid and easy to read. I could not put it down and am forever diving back into it to learn something new. The images showing the early development and design models are fascinating, as are the Porsche personalities we meet throughout the book. Rare models are covered in good detail and the author is not afraid to talk about the less successful developments. Readers who are interested in Porsche's racing history will be treated to an in depth account of how this model was campaigned. This is a very good book which could have only been improved by some colour photographs and more detailed production information. For anybody interested in this model, I fully recommend this book. The author has done a superb job of proving what a `real Porsche' these cars are and packs the book with excellent advice for the first time owner.

Porsche 924S 13 July 2006
By Al Paulissen - Published on Amazon.com
Since I own a 1987 Porsche 924S that is in very good condition, I wanted more information on the car and the general history of the same family of sportscars.

The book is very factual and interesting to read as well as enjoyable for the many photographs that provide a great deal of information. It does not cover the mechanicals as much as I had hoped but it obviously was not intended to be a shop manual.

I must say that I agree with the author that as a sportcar, they are fun to drive and are relatively robust when driven as they were intended to be.
