Product Description

Product Description

Since it first appeared in 1963, the Porsche 911 has been subject to continual refinement and improvement, giving rise to a range of variants that are still being developed. All the models have retained the 911 "look" and the car has become a classic during its own production lifespan. This book tells the story of the evolution of the Porsche 911. It traces the development of the 911 in all its variants, detailing the bodies, interiors, engines, transmissions and suspensions. It also lists year-by-year changes, together with full technical and competition details.

About the Author

Paul Frere - engineer, writer and former top racing driver - has driven virtually every Porsche 911 variant. He is the author of Porsche Boxster Story and My Life Full of Cars, in which the Porsche marque features strongly. He lives in Monaco. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete description of the evolution of the Porsche 911, 2 Oct 2000
This review is from: Porsche 911 Story (Hardcover)
The 'Porsche 911 Story' is one of the "Bibles" of the Porsche 911. It offers a complete picture of the evolution of the 911, from its roots in the 356 through to the last of the "true", air-cooled Porsches.

It falls between a mechanic's manual and a photo-filled story of the great car. It finds the middle ground perfectly and is an essential part of any 911 enthusiast's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate bible for 911 enthusiasts, 21 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Porsche 911 Story (Hardcover)
Although deeply technical in places, this is an excellent piece of work. The attention to detail is superb and Paul Frere really shows a passion for the porsche marque as well the 911 itself. My only criticisms would be the order the book is written and the poor sequencing of illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable and Instructive, 30 Sep 2009

This review is from: Porsche 911 Story (Hardcover)
Clearly written by someone who really knows his stuff. A really good history of 911 development from the 60s to the modern day and includes lots of fascinating technical detail. There's also a complete section on the car's racing pedigree. Paul Frere explains why Porsche had to abandon the enthusiasts much loved air-cooled engines and embrace water cooling after the last-of-line 993 series. I bought the book as I was looking to buy a 993 or 996 series car and it helped me decide to buy the 996 C4S.
