Adrian Graham Streather was born on December 25, 1958. He served 12 years in the Australian military from 1975 until 1987 as an Instrument Fitter (Scientific Instrument Maker). After the military he went into civil aviation, gaining licenses in all avionic and electrical fields. After working with three different aviation companies within Australia he was invited to join the Austrian airline Rheintalflug Seewald GmbH, which had its main technical base in Switzerland. The Streather family left Australia in April 1993 and proceeded to Switzerland where Adrian was appointed the Engineering Manager and held this position until October 31st 2003 when he was asked to leave by the new company owners. They were getting rid of it Embraer 145 jets and shutting down the company. In an ironic twist of fate the new owners were themselves taken over by another larger airline so what was the point in the end?
Adrian's personal involvement in motor racing and automobiles started very young. "His first recollection of a car was sitting in the front seat of a very old (1938) black Ford Prefect and building a model 1930 Bentley racing car aged about 3 years, all with his dad. In 1978 Adrian and a friend started rallying and then he moved briefly into track racing. A Suzuki GS 1000S motorcycle also figured in the action as well. The ever increasing financial burden of this hobby along with marriage and children force him to make a decision and he decided that his racing days were over, his passion for automobiles was not.
Overtaken on the south eastern freeway in 1978 by two 911SCs furthered Adrian's passion, "All I remember was seeing their wide rear ends disappearing into the distance and me saying I have got to get me one of those." In 1993 he purchased a black, 1979 924 (sold to Denmark). He then progressed onto a 944 (given to Sweden) and finally he purchased his first 911, a 964 series Carrera 4 and it hooked him for life. For many years the 911 totally consumed him and almost became a way of life. However, Adrian quickly discovered that the technical knowledge about the 964 series was extremely limited, he set himself to the task of finding out everything he could about the inner workings of the Carrera 4. Adrian found himself instructing the mechanics at his local repair facility on how the C4 worked. This experience led him to write his first book on the Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2, Carrera 4 and Turbo, which was published in America by Bentley Publishers of Cambridge Massachusetts.
Adrian's second book on the Porsche 911SC and the first of the Porsche The Essential Companion series was published in 2005 by Veloce Publishing Ltd. of England. This was followed by the Porsche 911 (993) Essential Companion and Adrian's biggest and best book yet, the Porsche 911 (996) Essential Companion. Veloce have also published other books by Adrian including; Ford GT Then and Now; Porsche 964, 993 & 996 Data Plate Code Breaker; 911SC Essential Buyer's Guide; 964 Essential Buyer's Guide; 993 Essential Buyer's Guide; 996 Essential Buyer's Guide; and two books in the new Battle Cry series; Soviet General and field rank officer uniforms: 1955 to 1991 and Red & Soviet military and paramilitary services: female uniforms 1941-1911.
Adrian has many non-automotive more books completed or in work along with a musical, but he hasn't forgotten his Porsche roots. He's developing a new series of books with Veloce covering the 911 Carrera 3.2; 930 Turbo, 986 Boxster and 987 Boxster/Cayman series and who knows what will follow after that?
