Pornographic Messiah is one of those CD's you can put on and it engulfs you. It has cinematic Presence even with its guitar overtones not especially gothic per se, it does conjure the image of power and hidden depth...gothic traits. PHILTRE OF DEATH is a part dedicated to the loss of ROZZ WILLIAMS from members that knew him.
ACT II has WASHING MACHINE which sounds a ludicrous title but is a great song, I saw it live for the first time in DRACFEST 200 years in WHITBY, UK.
I WEAVE MY SPELL has a strangely compelling vocal line, and the other parts of DEVINE MANIFESTATIONS are exceptional. I don't like sexdwarf...i suggest skipping it. BUT the album is still a 5*

Not what you might expect from the ferociously hating Christian Death, "Pornographic Messiah" alternates hypnotic almost-but-not-quite ambient sections with rampaging noise and rabid diatribes against religion. Whilst it's possibly not the most immediate introduction to the band, you would be hard pressed to find a more ultimately rewarding listen within the genre. A cover of Soft Cell's oldie "Sex Dwarf" feels a little bit out of place here, entertaining as it is, if only because the original material on display here is of a band at its creative best. Essential for those who are already C.D. fans, and if you're not, grab this along with "Sexy Death God" and a copy of the best of "The Bible" - you'll not go away disappointed.
