A book to remember. 25 Feb 2012
By DV8 Diva TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read this book quite a few years ago and always remembered it. It isn't an easy read. The corruption of a fundamentally decent child is not an easy subject to write about, let alone to read. Heather, nick named 'Porky' by her school mates, has a hard life with a feckless father, distant mother and unruly brother. When her father becomes much too close in his relationship with his daughter, it ends up poisoning everything in Heather's life. She sees herself as undeserving of love and punishes herself and those around her, including Ali who really loves her. Sharp and sad.

Harrowing & brilliant 19 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is a compelling read, contrasting starkly described horrors with the banality of the day to day survival of their aftermath. It haunted me for a long time after I'd read it.
I'd say this & Final Demand are her best books.
