5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Populous 9 April 2002
I bought this game for my son because I had been seriously addicted to the 'original' Populous version from the 1980s that came with a big fat manual. There's no manual with this version and there does not need to be because it's got context sensitive help throughout.
With a variety of tactics needed for success, I am once more seriously addicted. Although not essential to enjoy the strategy aspects of the game, the 3D graphics and sound effects are excellent too. It's one of those games where you lose yourself and then find it's half past 3 in the morning when you complete your mission. This game is well and truly up there with the other great simulations like Elite, Civilisation 2 and SimCity.
We've just had our first multi-player game using 2 PCs on a LAN (you could do this with modems on the original but I'd never tried it) and it was awesome. Up to 4 players are supported and alliances with other players can be made and broken. As there's an 'over the Internet' capability and an 'Internet partner finding' feature too I am certain that I'll soon be teaming up with my son and we will be taking on anyone foolish enough to think they can beat us!
At the ludicrously low price offered on Amazon this is a must-buy - no decision is needed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game, Bad modern day compatability 26 Mar 2004
I agree with the other reviews, this is a fun addictive game to play.
Sadly, its now 2004, and this game has been out of print for a long time. Bullfrog, the people who made it no longer exist (bought out by EA Games), and it is completely unsupported. No match making facilities, but you can still play multiplayed via LAN.
However, I have had no success running this game on my Windows XP machine. As the specs say, its for Win95 and Win98 only. It just won't run on my PC, despite claims that you can make it work by tweaking the Windows Compatability settings.
Great game, a brilliant God Sim where you walk around casting spells and building villages of different skilled people to support your dominion quest, but sadly lost on the modern day PC users.

4.0 out of 5 stars Populated or under rated? 1 Nov 2001
So, your looking for a decent God sim but you dont want the complexity of AofE and you dont like the turn based action of civilization. So what you want is an easy to understand easy to get into god sim.
This game is for you, combinig a great 3D engine with a fully rotating globe you commmand you tribesmen into war and worship.Build you tribe big and then train then up as warriors, priests, firwarriors......and then go and kick some emnemy but!
Learn some helpful and defastating spells along the way and eventually becaome the greatest being.A God.
I have had this game for around 2 years and im still playing it. This game rox!
