Popular Science is a must-have CD for anyone who is interested in all kinds of inventions from contact lenses to the cotton gin.

It is easy and fun to use with a sliding timescale that gives a great perspective on when things where invented - you may find some surprises such as the fact that umbrellas have been around for a couple of thousand years as well as realising you actually remember some of the things you learnt at school

The CD provides just the right amount of info and provides valuable web links so you can go on to research a topic as much or as little as you would like. The fact that it is on CD also means that it is easier for both kids and adults to dip into rather than looking up things of interest in a giant dusty encyclopaedia.

Inventions are a topic of ever-green interest and fascination, and this CD has appeal from a historical point of view as well as a scientific one.

The quiz is great fun and very addictive although some of the questions seemed biased towards an American audience - although this didn't really affect the game too much, it just made it a bit harder!
There are enough questions that you don't get asked the same things over and over again every time you replay the quiz, but just enough to make you realise it is a good way to learn things when they do crop up occasionally.

The information that pops up alongside the right answer is v interesting and informative and most of the questions themselves are very varied, based on everyday objects to the most obscure inventions you can imagine!
