So useful I had to buy it 21 Dec. 2010

After getting this book (and its companion) out of the library several times I realized I simply had to buy it. The name "Quimper" is applied to all ceramics from this town in Brittany, north-west France, as if they were all from the same factory. After several buy-outs in recent decades that is now almost the case. But in the first half of the 20th century things were very different.. O'Neill makes quick work out of defining the essential differences between makers and clarifying the confusing marks (the makers deliberately poached on each others' territory). Each class of item is described in text and image, with prices based on O'Neill's extensive experience that are easily translatable into today's prices. Ceramics from Quimper have a timeless appeal and remain as collectible as ever. This book is a valuable guide into what would otherwise be a murky area for the beginner. I also find it a joyful book to browse through with the vibrant colours of the pottery and the simple goodheartedness of the artists' creativity. Just what is needed in these days of social and financial austerity. Highly recommended.
