I received my copy of the new edition a couple of weeks ago. This is a very nice edition. Good clear print and cross references, useful concordance and basic maps. The maps are not the usual Bible maps supplied, but rather a more modern offering - not as detailed as the old ones and printed on very thick paper, almost as thick as card. There was not much information available about this edition available, but I had though it would be leather as in some descriptions - however it is bonded leather. It is of a nice quality and does smell slightly leathery. The two black ribbons markers and gold guilding are a nice touch, although the grey paper lining inside the Bible is rather cheap. However if you prefer the anglicised text and don't want a hard-back - you would probably be quite pleased with this new 2011 updated edition. I really like mine.

i was needing a new Bible because my previous one was GNB & my new Church uses NIV (makes life so much easier to use the same translation!) . i also wanted a Bible that would fit into my bag, be durable but flexible, so a leather bound one was the most obvious choice!
i also needed a decent size font as can no longer read small print comfortably.

this Bible fits those criteria, the leather bounding makes it v durable but easy to use, the font is a great size & also as it lays flat it's very easy to read.

i was initially not too keen on Christ's words being in red, not as easy to read i thought, but actually it's really not bad at all & i can read it easily!
i like the book mark ribbon (though always think more than one would be useful!).

i've given 5 stars because the 2 niggles i have are minor! i'd really have found a brief introduction to each book helpful (as i have in another Bible) & ideally i'd like all print in black & not some in red, but these are so minor i've still given 5 stars!

this Bible is packaged so nicely & has a presentation plate it'd make an ideal gift. i ordered the brown/ tan 2 tone leather & it has gilt edging so it's beautiful to look at too.
it's also a new edition (march 2011) so totally up to date & the NIV is such a straight forward translation to understand.

The NIV is my favourite version, and this update is really good. As a local preacher in training, I need an accurate translation that puts the text into English people can understand. This rendition of the NIV is good from that point of view. The binding is good, but fine bindings don't appear to be what they used to be. The paper isn't fine quality Bible paper and the maps really aren't up to much. The text is really easy to read and the two ribbons are most useful. The positives do outway the negatives, but a favourite Bible is a friend that we want to last for many years in spite of regular use. You cannot do that with a budget binding.

I'm happy to recommend this to others, and I am sure it will prove to be a 'best friend' Bible for many for years to come, regardless of whether you are a new Christian or a preacher/teacher.

This is a beautifully crafted bible with silver gilt edges. Perfect for everyday use, that's why I like the thinline. The text is an easy to read size and very clear to read. There isn't a concordance at the back though, just in case that's important to you. Would make a perfect gift too. It's also the new version 2010 NIV.

This is a smartly bound edition in "Italian Duo Tone" leather, a ribbon, and silver gilt edging to the pages. The "Thinline" version print is readable (even for a 67-year-old) and the pages are well laid out. I'm not keen on having the words of Jesus in red (it's less legible, for one thing), but this seems to be popular in America. Interestingly, the introductory blurb says: '... the issuing of "red-letter" editions is a publisher's choice--one the [translation] committee does not endorse.' So read into that what you like!
This is a newly revised (2011) version, updating the language from the previous NIV revision of 1984, and also building on the TNIV (2005). It is not yet available in British English (I assume), but you only occasionally notice the slight differences in vocabulary and spelling. Having used the NIV for many years (as well as a range of other versions), I was surprised by how often revisions in the translation occur. Much of this arises from updated use of gender-neutral language, so that "the man who loves God is known by God" becomes "whoever loves God is known by God". 30 years ago "man" was accepted as referring to "a person" in certain contexts, but that is no longer the case -- chairman has become chairperson, and so on. As far as I can see, the language of the 2011 NIV has hit a good balance. There will no doubt be places where I don't like their choice of words, but no translation is perfect!
All in all, a very good buy at under £16, and it is hard to see anyone being disappointed in purchasing this edition. The only disadvantage would be in being out of step with users of previous versions of the NIV, especially where a church has already established the NIV as a version for use in services.Thinline Bible-NIV
