Product Description

Enjoy again the highs and lows from the ITV series which trawled the nation to create the ultimate pop band. LWT Controller of Entertainment Nigel Lythgoe was joined on the selection panel by PR manager Nicki Chapman and A&R man Paul Adam to whittle down the applicants; auditionees featured here include popular faves Claire, Taz, Warren, Darius, Noel, Danny, Myleene, Suzanne and Kym. Includes never-before-seen footage.

From Amazon.co.uk

Popstars was a self-perpetuating roller-coaster of a phenomenon, --television, marketing and music coming together in an unprecendented frenzy of hype. The warts-and-all formation of a pop band made high-rating television and so the release of a Popstars video begs the question, what more can we possibly learn about them?

The official Popstars video tells Hear'say's story with a satisfying blend of footage from the programmes and exclusive, never seen before interviews with each band member. In these relaxed segments, they talk about how they see themselves, each other and their situation and discuss how the press has treated them.

Follow the judges as they visit 10 cities in 6 weeks for the first round of auditions, experiencing the highs and the lows, the talented... and the really untalented. As judge Nigel Lythgoe says, "it's a bit like pearl-diving". The footage of hopefuls crossing the 'green mile' to find out whether they're in or out doesn't have the tension of the first viewing when we didn't know who would survive to the next round, but it is fascinating in hindsight.

Obviously condensing the series down to a running time of two hours will mean missing some of the moments we remember and this means omitting characters such as the interesting chap who saw the band as a springboard to Hollywood and thence into politics and Presidency of the USA. Having said that, there is still a fair smattering of the rejects who have gone on to be z-list celebrities, and interviews with those who nearly made it, like Jessica and Tony. Revisit--if you can bear to--the 'wise' words of Darius ("how much love is there in this room?") and all the intensity of the gruelling audition process, which must already seem like a world away to the winners.

Popstars the video ends with the newly-chosen five settling into their luxury home, still at the relative beginning of their surreal adventure in fame. A must for Popstars and Hear'say fans, the video definitely adds to the Popstars experience and with the benefit of hindsight it certainly is interesting to watch the early auditions of the five who made it. --Rachel Ediss --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I recently bought this video after seeing it on the shelf amongst other vids and thought "get it", the series was excellent and you can't exactly go wrong with a 100% official title.
Just like the series. The video was excellent. It showed many emotional scenes from the show. At 2 hours long I never thought I could sit through the whole lot but I did .... a few days later I watched it all over again.
I would recommend you buy this video. Who cares if it's a year old. Popstars is a show I will remember for a long time. We all have dreams and that is exactly what Popstars was all about.

Our family has been hooked on the Popstars saga since it began! My wife and I watched it avidly with our children, emails to my parents were not complete without a discussion on Hear'say. Many of our friends, however, had missed out for numerous reasons - "missed the first few so don't think we can get into it now", "don't like manufactured bands" etc etc - so we bought the video and got them all round for a Popstars night! It really is great watching it all again; especially as we know who made the final five now, you really look out for them when you watch it again. Hear'say will go onto to be a huge band and to own this video will remind us where it all began...

The Popstars video is compulsive and addictive. Even if you haven't, like me, managed to catch any of the original program you will not have been able to escape the hype of hear'say - as the name would suggest. I really don't have time to watch much television but in the weeks following Popstars airing I felt so left out at not having 'been there' that I had to get the video, and what a video.
It was devastatingly sad to see one young hopeful after another shot down in flames at the hands nasty Nigel, I found myself hurling curses at his complacent and ruthless detachment. On a less visceral level though, it was fascinating to decide along with the judges which wannabes would eventually form the band - I have to confess I had a few reservations about the line-up they chose, but then, what do I know.
Having the video and being able to scan the development process of the group is a real treasure, it is the side of life that your average Joe doesn't usually get to see, but we can dream - and, after all, isn't that what it's all about! Buy it.

Popstars - who could forget Darius, Claire, the wannabees and hopefuls in this 'real tv' docu-soap! Revel in it once more on this DVD. The series was fantastic and here it is, in it's full glory on DVD. Settle down with your hairbrush in front of your mirror and enjoy!!!
