Official souvenir DVD for the UK Papal visit 2010. Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope Benedict XVI on 19th April 2005, becoming only the second non-Italian to be made Pope since 1522. The other was his much-loved predecessor Pope John Paul II; and this official souvenir DVD programme, featuring exclusive footage from the Vatican, traces Cardinal Ratzinger s journey from the death of Pope John Paul II to his enthronement as Pope Benedict XVI. Featuring previously unseen material of Pope Benedict and his College of Cardinals in the Vatican and St Peter s, this unique memento will delight all who wish to discover the new Pope s desire for truth and Christianity in the modern world. Pope Benedict XVI was born Joseph Alois Ratzinger in 1927 and grew up under a harsh Nazi regime that was hostile towards the Catholic Church. But it was during these difficult times that he discovered the beauty and truth of his faith in Christ. He received his priestly ordination on the 29th June 1951 and was named Archbishop of Munich and Freising in 1977 by Pope Paul VI. After many years of working with the College of Cardinals and researching theology, Cardinal Ratzinger took the first step on his long journey to let heart speak unto heart by being elected Pope Benedict XVI. Extra features include the featurettes: Heart Speaks Unto Heart, The Enthronement Of The Pope, An Audience With The Pope and An Evening With The Pope.

I agree with the other reviewers. I had recorded some of the Pope's visit to the UK but, wanting to free up recording space, I thought it would be great to have the Memento of the visit on DVD. However it has arrived and I am SO disappointed. Plenty of background to the Pope and the Vatican and pieces on Pope John Paul II however the DVD stops at 2009 just mentioning that the Pope will be undertaking a State visit to the UK 'next year'. There is therefore no recording of the actual visit and to say that the DVD is the 'official UK Visit DVD' is absolutely misleading. As far as I was concerned this was a total waste of money.

This DVD has absolutely nothing to do with the Pope's UK visit and anyone expecting it to will be very disappointed. It is simply a history of the pope so how it claims to be the 'Official UK Papal Visit' is a completel mystery.

I agree this really mislead me into thinking the DVD was that of the Pope's Visit to the UK, very very disappointed. I have to say the John Paul 11 bits were very moving

I'm a big fan of Benedict XVI but this is a very dodgy item. To call it the official Papal Visit DVD is nothing short of mendacious. It's simply a mish-mash of clips from various sources such as the evening news bulletin, some of which are moderately interesting, many of which are well past their sell-by date. This is a con, the Church should be ashamed of any association with it, and Amazon should not sell it.

I was conned by Amazon into buying this by the title ("Official UK Papal Visit") thinking it was a DVD of the Pope's visit. It is nothing of the sort and Amazon should stop selling it under this title, or include a disclaimer. However, I am very surprised that there does not seem to be a DVD, official or otherwise, of the Pope's visit. If any reader is aware of one, perhaps they could post details on this site?

We have been completely conned! "Official UK Papal Visit". Absolute nonsense and Amazon should be ashamed as their description is a total misrepresentation.
