More About the Author

Jennie's personal website is: www.jenniemaizels.com

Jennie was born in London in 1970. Her Mother and Father met at Chelsea School of Art and are both artists. They now run the art magazine 'Raw Vision'. Jennie went to Central St. Martins School of Art to study Illustration. where her graduation show included a life-sized replica of Alice in Wonderland's Tea Party, made out of Paper Mache!

Jennie's first commission was to design and make the window displays of Harvey Nichols department store as part of London fashion week. She produced a number of nationwide window displays for The Body Shop and Dillons Bookstores. Jennie has always enjoyed working in 3-D, so pop-up books were a natural transition.

After leaving college she had the wonderful fortune of being introduced to Kate Petty. Kate was a truly fabulous and very talented children's book writer.

Jennie and Kate became inseparable, working on eight books together over Sixteen years. The books they have produced have sold over a million copies worldwide.

"The Great Grammar Book" was nominated for Children's Book of the Year 1999 and "The Global Garden" was winner of the Aventis Prize 2006. Very sadly, Kate died on May 22nd 2007. Jennie misses her very much, but is continuing to work on pop books; Jennie has since worked with Kate's son Will Petty on 'My Pop Up Body Book' which has just been published.

In 2009, Jennie started up 'Clothes Plasters'; beautiful, embroidered iron-on patches. A very successful little product, selling in John lewis, Liberty and hundreds more shops in the UK and abroad.

Jennie's favourite things are; collecting old shop letters, cooking very tall cakes, sketching on holidays, eating mangos and spying on her little girls when they're dancing in their bedrooms!

Jennie lives in Hampshire with her husband and two children (and Dotty the dog)

Got this book for my Eldest daughter Annie and she absulotley adores it.
For younger children (shes 4.5) the amazing drawings and pop ups (you can sail a ship through Tower Bridge) are fantastic, for older children theres a wealth of information on every page, detailing the history and culture of the City through its famous landmarks, it's so detailed it's almost a 3D Map.

For very little ones it should be noted some of the pop ups are very delicate, so little fingers may not suit it,
for older childen though this book is highly recommended

I ordered on Amazon having looked through Pop-up London in a bookshop's Jubilee display. Being impressed by the design and paper engineering showing the major landmarks of London, I was amazed to find that the interiors were illustrated on the reverse of the buildings together with useful information and 'Spot the Scene' quizzes. Marching soldiers at Buckingham Palace, Oxford and Cambridge boatrace and London Eye that turns - just a few examples to enjoy. Highly recommended.

I bought this for my 6 and 3 year old in preparation for their visit to London. They love the book, it has attractive bits for both younger and older kids, and interesting information at the level suitable to them. A bit overpriced even considering the paper-engineering involved, hence 4 stars.

I've bought this book following the previous recommendations for my nephew in America. It is such agood book with so many facts I'll be buying it again for other children. The pop up scenes are very well designed and very colourfully, then turn the book around for facts on the back. I would recommend this book to everyone. Excellent

Highly recommend this book, it's amazing! A Tower Bridge that opens and closes and buildings you can look inside, absolutely beautiful. All the major sights of London are there, even an Olympic Park, lots of flaps to lift and read interesting information underneath too.

As a collector of pop up books for many years, and most are quite old, I am delighted with this modern one. It is very cleverly constructed, larger than most pop-ups and unusually is able to be viewed from both sides. Turn the book round and you can see inside the buildings. Lots of interesting facts too.

Sadly when it arrived in record time the spine had a small tear at the back. I re-ordered and the replacement came within 48 hours - that's good service and with the printed return label which Amazon provides on line I was able to put the damaged book back in its original box and drop it off at a local collection point less than half a mile away and, of course, at no cost. Well done Amazon.
