Album Description

The Darling Buds were part of an exciting indie phenomena in the late 1980’s – guitar bands with blonde female lead singers (along with The Primitives & Transvision Vamp).

Originally from South Wales, the band released one self financed single and were picked up by indie label Native. After two further singles they were signed by Sony imprint Epic and in the January 1989 released their debut long-player "Pop Said" which reached No 23 in the National album charts.

The album contains the four hit singles ‘Let’s Go Round There’, ‘Burst’, ‘Hit The Ground’ and ‘You’ve Got To Choose’.

Now reissued and fully expanded by nine tracks to include all of the B-sides from the singles, including two tracks never before on CD. The accompanying booklet includes thoughts from the band today looking back at the release, alongside sleeve images and effects from their personal archive.

CLASSIC PURE POP! 5 July 2006

It's great news that "Pop Said", the Darling Buds debut album (for Epic) is to get a timely reissue. Released back in 1988 "Pop Said" deserved more success than initially recieved. (Hopefully Cherry Red will be able to reissue the two albums that followed - both classic and unjustly ignored.) Full of hook laden classic power pop it's time to reaquaint yourself with this album. Like I said, and Pop Said - "Let's go round there!"

I had forgotten how good this album was, the extra tracks add to the original album. How this band did not achieve greater status defeats me.
I have a very large eclectic collection, I have never been moved to write a review before. If you like honest to goodness pop, dont hesitate, this album deserves 10 stars.

What a great re-release. With the extra added tracks of various B sides and 2 tracks that have never before appeared on cd, makes this a must for all darling buds fans. The inner booklet folds out to a small poster with some never before seen photo's and various album and singles art. Also there is a written interview with andrea from may 2006 documenting her time with the darling buds. I cant believe she was only 20, and in her words "having the time of my life". All we need now is some kind of dvd and a reunion gig/tour.............
