"Hilarious. One Of The Greatest Hashtags Ever"

Imagine for a moment, if you will, the world’s greatest rock stars. But they’re in court, being quizzed about the lyrics of their hit songs. That’s Pop Leveson. The twitter hashtag game that went round the world three times – engaging 10,000 players and creating 25,000 jokes.

The fun began on the sidelines of the Leveson legal inquiry in London, as lawyers pitched lawyerly questions. (Hence the name if you’re wondering.) Soon the creative imaginations of twitter’s comedy elite were joining the game. The jokes came fleeing from all directions. A-list media people were playing too. Top radio presenters; news anchors; writers; politicians; columnists; stand-up comedians. All competing in the friendliest of conceivable competitions: a world comedy jokefest.

Way too funny to be allowed digital Lethean oblivion; the best Leveson jokes are alive and well and here to make you laugh in Pop Leveson:Twitter’s Funniest Hashtag. In this hashtag Hall of Fame are the funniest 1001 #PopLeveson jokes. All are fully credited to their original tweeters. And with, from the gifted hand of Adrian Teal, a big bunch of very, very funny cartoons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius! 1 April 2013
By Nic
Format:Kindle Edition
Genuinely funny with really original comedy ideas!

If you aren't familiar with the original #popleveson hashtag game, it was a fantastically popular Twitter trend - based on pop/rock musicians being questioned, often on literal interpretations of famous song lyrics. This is a collection of the 1001 best tweets, with the bonus of many superb colour cartoons. The jokes are very good, for anyone into music this book is guaranteed to bring lots of smiles and many laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny book with great illustrations 3 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In the space of a weekend or so last year, during the Leveson inquiry, a chance comment made on Twitter led to a spate of jokes about pop stars being interrogated about their lyrics, with the hashtag #popleveson. At the time, I smiled at many of the jokes, but found them to be somewhat hit and miss and quite repetitive.

Now, though, humourist Peter Gill - who brought us the wonderful 42 - Douglas Adams' Amazingly Accurate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything a few years ago - has taken it upon himself to plough through 25,000 tweets and bring the 1001 best to us in this book. Covering a wide span of music, neatly arranged in alphabetical order by artist name, there's something for everyone here whether they're a fan of Rick Astley - "But do you not concede, Mr Astley, that never giving up someone could in fact be construed as a threat to false imprisonment?" or Queen - "if you put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger and now he's dead, then a guilty plea might save time."

In addition to the 1001 tweets, what makes the book really stand out is the stunning illustrations. Adrian Teal's brilliant portraits of pop stars in the dock are some of the best caricatures I've seen for ages - I particularly liked Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, looking as if they were desperately trying to remember the exact Memphis bar in which they met the gin-soaked queen.

Strongly recommended as a real bargain for such a low price!

Format:Kindle Edition
If you enjoyed the #popleveson hashtag game last year - and especially if you missed it first time round - you'll love this fantastically funny book. It has the best jokes and many really are going to make you laugh, worth my 5 stars. This Kindle book has many brilliant cartoons of the rock stars as well and these are excellent in their own right. I enjoyed the first, and now I'll enjoy the second it's superb to be able to relive the original in this hilarious book.
