Product Description

Product Description

'In this witty and entertaining excursion through previously unchartered areas of the world of Pooh, John Tyerman Williams sets out to prove beyond a doubt that the whole of Western philosophy - from the cosmologists of ancient Greece to existentialism in this century - may be found in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. This book confirms what many have long suspected: that Pooh is a Bear of Enormous Brain

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny but informative, 3 Mar 2001
This brilliliant books is a must-read for any Pooh lover or anyone interested in philosophy. The book is witty, often hilaroius and introduces philosophical theories so subtly and gently you would not even know you are learning while being entertained. The first time I read this book I was sitting on a bus and I am sure a number of people were wondering what was that crazy woman sitting on her own laughing about so hard. This book does not require any knowledge of philosphy in order to be understood. I am totally ignorant of those theories and nevertheless I found the book very clear. A friend who is a philosophy lecturer enjoyed it as much as I did, so either way, it is very accessible. I now noticed Amazon sell Pooh and the psychologists, as a psychologist, I will run and buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pooh and the philosophers, 24 Jun 2004
This review is from: Pooh and the Philosophers (Wisdom of Pooh) (Paperback)
Pooh and the philosophers is a well thought out and clearly presented insight to deeper levels of the Pooh opus. Anyone with a passion for pooh, or wanting to be introduced to philosophy should give this one a try. Slightly repetitive at times and also a bit dismissive to popular belief on the subject. Also a brilliant source for other books written by such great philosophers as Plato, Socrates and Nietzche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Philosophy students must read!, 1 July 2003
I bought this as an Open University student studying philosophy. A lifetime Pooh fan, I was intrigued to know what slant the "Bear of (supposedly) Little Brain" would bring to my studies. I was NOT disappointed:-)
Buy it, whether you're also a fan of Pooh or not - if nothing ese, you'll regard the "serious" philosophers in a whole new light. What's more, you'll enjoy yourself!
