Interesting variation of a crossword game... 28 Dec. 2013

An interesting, quicker than Scrabble word game. Basically, you win chips based on the words you play on the board, the harder the word to make, the more you win. Unfortunately, you have to hold the tiles in your hand...even worse, there's no rules in the box I received, nor available online. Because of this, I've posted rules we've developed to play the game. For fans of word games, this is a good one to try, so check out our rules:

Players start by turning all of the tiles face down and spreading them on the table. Chips are evenly divided amongst the players (red chips and white chips are equivalent). Each player draws seven tiles and holds them in his/her hand. Players in this quick-playing word game compete to win one or more of the pots along the side of the board. A player wins by accumulating the most chips after (5) rounds of play. To start each round, or turn, each player adds one chip to each pot. Any chips left over in any pots, unclaimed from the previous round, remain in their respective pots, to be carried over into the next round. The “pool” is an additional bonus earned by making a seven-letter word. The other pots are won, as described next to the pot. At any time during the game, if a player’s bank falls below (12) chips and they cannot ante-up, they are out of the game. The game starts by a selected player making a word that consists of (2) letters or more; that player spells out their word on the board, covering the center “Start” square. Chips are earned by winning those pots that apply to the word played. To earn the chips in one or more pots, a player has to place a word, crossword-style to an existing word, and/or by adding to an existing word. Blanks are used as wild tiles, standing for any letter, as declared. Each word played must be in a standard dictionary. All words labeled as a part of speech (including those listed of foreign origin, and as archaic, obsolete, colloquial, slang, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the following: words always capitalized, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe. If a player cannot make a word to earn a pot, the player has to option of trading all seven tiles with new ones, or the player can play a word, then draw new tiles to replace the tiles played (without earning any chips), or the player may just pass his/her turn. There are (5) pots for word lengths and (6) pots for bonus words, requiring that all of the letters listed be used in a word. After players complete their word, they win chips in any applicable pot by taking them out and adding them to their bank. At the end of their turn, the player draws tiles to replace the ones played. At any time in the game, if there’s only one player left, they are declared the winner. Otherwise, after (5) rounds of play, the player with the most chips in their bank wins.
Double Letter: won with any word containing two consecutive identical letters
OU: won with any word containing the letters o and u, in that order
ING: won with any word containing ING, in that order
J, K, X, or Z: won with any word containing one or more of any of these letters
Match: won with any word that has already been played previously
Blank: won with any word containing the wild, blank tile
