From the Author

After twenty years of helping people understand the art of personal communication I wanted to get down on paper an explanation of the techniques that will help make you more effective and more successful.

It’s interesting that ultimate success in all our lives always comes down to how well we communicate with others. Without ‘connecting’ effectively we can only ever hope to achieve a small proportion of our potential, whether it is in career, social, or even family life.

We all recognise and admire great communicators whether they are colleagues at work, people who feature regularly in the media or perhaps even historical characters. But what do these people have in common that makes them stand out? How do they create the ‘ripple’ effect?

The chances are, we have also experienced the poor communicators who rely on bullet points, complicated pie charts, big words, masses of information and very long presentations to attempt to get their message across, subjecting their audience to wrist slashing boredom! When was the last time any of us ever remembered a bullet point?

Life is too short to keep on doing the same thing in the hope that one day it will miraculously work. There is another way.

For many years, my career has been spent influencing (or helping my clients influence) every conceivable type of audience all over the world. I have written Pond Life to help people understand the power of this ‘ripple’ effect and show you how to create it to influence your audience.

I promise, by being prepared to think differently and change your approach, Pond Life will influence you in the right direction.

So dip a toe in the ‘Pond’ and see for yourself.

I hope you enjoy the book and that it continues to be fulfilling and useful in your (‘pond’) life.

Jon Hammond

(REAL NAME)
Take the plunge! This book is a must for anyone in business who wants to communicate better - whether with colleagues, customers or clients. In fact, there's no one who couldn't benefit from the sound wisdom here. We all communicate with each other, so why not make it more interesting, more enjoyable and with a more rewarding outcome?

In clearly laid out stages, Jon Hammond takes the reader through the do's and don'ts of interacting with confidence. The Pond Life title is an analogy for the world we all inhabit and the ripple-effect of changes. Are you the sort of person who waits for a ripple to come to them? Wouldn't you prefer to start a ripple yourself and see the difference? It's important to stress that though the book may help you to make changes, you will still be yourself at the end.

There are some terrific anecdotes of how this works in practice. From Bill Clinton to young footballers at Leeds United, to the chief of VISA international in the USA, the author shows how, in real situations, this stuff works. His tale of a radio interview he once conducted, that didn't go so well, is an hilarious example of how not to do it!

After reading Pond Life I was ready to dive into the deep end! I wish I'd read this book years ago.
Graham Smith.
