4.0 out of 5 stars Pompeii Revisited 5 May 2014
By JAMES D. NORWOOD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I visited Pompeii in August of 1984. It was hot and crowded with dueling guides that day. Robert Coltan's Pompeii: Hazard at Bay makes a much more exciting and fun tour. The sites in the book are real. Marcelius and his associates have a delightful romp in Old Pompeii. You can see photos of the sites on Facebook. I guarantee a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another mysterious adventure 22 April 2014
By cathairetic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I do love the characters of Marcellus and Tay. This installment of their adventures has them worrying that their cover may be blown. Marcellus' former tutor and valet have arrived in Pompeii on their way back to Rome from Egypt. The tutor is killed and the valet is sure to be executed for the crime.

Author Robert Colton has written a convoluted mystery that will stump the best of armchair detectives. There are several suspects and many reasons why the crime might have been committed. Trying to make sense of it all results in Tay and Marcellus almost losing their lives because of their investigations. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Mystery with Tay and Marcellus 26 Mar. 2014
By E. Mason - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again, Robert Colton has taken is on an adventure through Pompeii. This time, we spend a lot more time with the political members of society, with Tay broadening his horizons to make new acquaintances. Marcellus continues in his role as slave, and we learn more about the characters we have come to admire, and those we don't trust. The murder in this story seems to take a back seat to character development. A most interesting, creative, yet satisfying choice. I await the next adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complicated plot 16 Feb. 2014
By David A. Stedman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have the first two books and read them with enjoyment, sometimes baffled by the MANY characters, but that's okay. I like the characters, and am sure we will learn much more about TAY as in OcTAYvius..

Robert needs a good proofreader, though, both for spelling and punctuation--and also for confusion, because Marcus or Marius or Maius--names appear suddenly, that weren't there before, last a few pages, and then devolve into another form. Scratching my head, but enjoying the books. First book was best.

I mean only to encourage...

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel like I know the characters 22 Mar. 2014
By Margaret E. Ryan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As one reviewer already wrote, these books build on each other and get even better. The characters and setting are so vividly and carefully described that I've developed an understanding (and great appreciation) of Ancient Rome that I never had before. But Colton's historical details add color and don't feel tacked on. They also don't drag down the pace of the books, which are twisty and very fun. I can't wait to read the next one!
