Product Description

Laguna Max-Flo 4000 Waterfall & Filter Pump is designed to circulate water loaded with moderate amounts of solid particles (or solids) and transport them to suitable external filter systems (including pressurized filters) which then trap debris that could potentially pollute pond water, effectively filtering the pond. Max-Flo is ideal for use with filtration systems and for creating waterfalls and watercourses. Easy to install and operate, the pump is completely submersible and engineered to run continuously. Max-Flo 4000 is intelligently managed by Laguna's next generation Smart Pump Technology (SPT), a major technical advancement that further improves pump performance, energy efficiency, and user friendliness. SPT is an internal self-regulating system that tracks power consumption, hydraulics, and impeller direction to ensure powerful output and energy efficiency, so that only the required amount of power is used to operate the pump efficiently. The pump is powered by a magnetic-driven motor that is unmatched in the market for its ability to generate powerful and continuous water flow while consuming minimal electricity-the perfect combination of high pump efficiency and low energy costs. This is great news for people who are wary of costly hydro bills. Max-Flo 4000 can handle solids up to 3/8" (9 mm) in size. Guaranteed for 3 years Features: Strainer cage protects impeller and assures continuous suction 3/8" (9 mm) diameter cage openings for solids handling capability Easy-to-use Click-Fit connectors for fast and easy hose connections Unique two-level suction capability, through upper and lower casing, for maximum water flow Pump cage can be easily attached to a fixed surface using the convenient keyhole cutouts Manufacturers Code: PT8236

This is slightly more powerful than the one it's replaced but 3 weeks later pond is still not clear, so not sure if it's as good as before, also took longer than stated for delivery. That's why only three stars

Over rated flow rate. 8 Jun. 2013
By WThesing - Published on
I replaced a 6 yr old Pondmaster Mag Drive 700 gph with this unit. The Pondmaster mag drives are not known for outstanding head height pressure, but are adequate. This unit suffers from lack of head pressure, and moves far less water at 50" than the pump it replaced, when I expected more. I should have ordered the 1300 gph model instead, but had no info on the gph rate at different heights, only max height at 6' 6". I learned a valuable lesson. Look at the wattage rating of the pump. This is "energy efficient" at 57 watts. What this really means is the pump is underpowered, and will move 960 gph at a LEVEL installation. I reduced my head height by 2 feet without any noticeable increase in volume. Pump seems to be well made, but is over rated on flow. I have had my pond for 14 years, and am quite knowledgeable. This is a situation of having too little info on flow rates when the purchase was made. Just not enough power for my 34" deep 400 gal pond with a 1 1/2 foot high waterfall. On the plus side, I no longer need a pre-filter, as this pump will handle suspended debris-----BUT---- This pump does not perform as well on flow when compared to the smaller one it replaced that had a pre-filter installed. Less drag but still lower volume. I do like the quick turn fasteners for opening the cage when having to inspect or clean the intake, which should be considered a normal maintenance item. Quick disconnect fitting for discharge hose also makes for easy removal from the pond.

Update 6/30/2013

After much thought I came up with a solution to increase the water flow. As mentioned the pump suffers from lack of pressure. My hose was ribbed 3/4" diameter, I changed all to 1" diameter, thereby allowing more volume to travel through the hose at lower pressure. The volume increased by approximately 30 % which makes me a lot happier. If your situation relies on pressure, I would look elsewhere, or go bigger.

Can't say enough good things. This is my second Laguna pump, bought to run a waterfall in a secondary pond. With our first pond we bought pump after pump. They'd run for a summer and die. First Laguna still going strong 3 years later. Service from Webbs was excellent. Even though not prime eligible it was delivered for free in 2 days.
