This is just stunning! Totally unexpected - the only one of the band members whose work I had encountered before is Johann Johannson, who composes characteristically austere Icelandic modern classical music. This is nothing like that!
Having four keyboard players in a band is certainly a novelty, but it works perfectly here - the sounds are vintage synth and organ, with excellent real drums, so in terms of the sounds this album coud have been recorded in 1973 - but the production is big, warm and lush - very 21st century. The pace is fast and furious - and unexpectedly Pop, perhaps reminiscent of some of Krautrock's more upbeat moments combined with a dose of any number of early synth novelty hits. The vocoded vocals are calculated to evoke early Kraftwerk, and the keyboards occasionally bring Jarre or even Tangerine Dream to mind - but this all comes together in a startlingly original, accessible and entertaining way. If you're nervous, dip your toe in by downloading "Cargo Frakt", a mishmash of Trans-Europe Express, prog-rock distorted keyboard riffing and powerful drumming. I challenge you to keep the smile off your face!
