When i was younger, i regulary used to watch this film on VHS. I remember i liked it very much then, but i can`t
say the same thing now. I remember i used to be frightened by this film, but not now.
It was mostly Kane that frightened me before. Some of specials effects don`t look so good now, but for their
time they was state-of-the-art special effects. I like the keyboard music in the film. Pity i didn`t like it as
much as i used to.
Picture Quality: 5/5
Wow, i was impressed by the quality. I think everything looks razor sharp and very detailed. I was very
suprised by the picture quality. I expected it to look far worse than this, so i was very happy with it.
I think the colours also look good. I rarely give films top score, but in this case, i think it deserves it.
They used some minor DNR, but i didn`t notice any of the typical artifacts or smearing as you usualy see when DNR has been used. So, i am glad it was only used as little as possible. Even though it was used, you can still see all the details.
Audio Quality: 4/5
Hm, i was less impressed by the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, but still it`s quite good, it just don`t have the reference quality as the picture quality does. The dialog was too low and felt a little thin, and each time a there was a dialog scene, i had to turn up
the volume. This get`s very annoying after a while. The sound effects are a different matter. Most of them was
mixed too loud. I had to lower the volume nearly each time we saw Kane.
Apart from the mentioned things, i was happy with this surround remix. The Rear speakers are used a lot to
good effect from the many various ambience effects. Of course the music are also used much. There was so
many different effects used coming out the rears, that i don`t remember them all, but i can mention the ones i
still remember.
These effects did i hear in the rears: thunder, footsteps, voices, echoes and the wind. I believe my subwoofer
was used occasionally. If just those sound effects and the dialog was mixed better, i would have given it a
higher score. Too bad.
FIlm: 3.5/5
