Product Description

Here's a BBC Radio-4 full-cast dramatisation of the classic American tale, starring Gayle Hunnicutt.

When Pollyanna's father dies, she is sent to live with her only surviving relative, the rich but stern Aunt Polly. Pollyanna's joy soon turns to disappointment when her spinster aunt gives her a cold greeting and tells her she is to stay in the attic.

It's not the welcome Pollyanna expected, but she soon regains her spirits, playing the "glad game" her father taught her. Nancy the maid is charmed by Pollyanna and soon the girl's infectious optimism wins the hearts of everyone in town, from the reclusive Mr Pendleton to the shy Dr Chilton. Everyone, that is, except Aunt Polly, who refuses to succumb to her young niece's charm.

It is not until a tragic accident occurs, which leaves even Pollyanna struggling to find a way to feel glad, that her maiden aunt finally unwraps her heart from years of bitterness.

This dramatisation retains the spirit of childlike innocence and optimism that has made Pollyanna a favourite amongst generations of children and adults.

A lovely book 25 July 2006
By Alexa
Format:Paperback
While this book was written quite a long time ago it is still a really good read. Pollyanna will make you smile at the simple sometimes childish way she has of being a perpetual optimist. I still love this book and after reading it I was genuinely surprised to find myself looking at things and finding something there to be 'glad' about.

I assumed before reading this book recently that Pollyanna is a 'hopeless' optimist. Not at all. Her optimism springs from her Christian hope, and it changes many people's lives in the book. If you're a Christian and looking for a good book for your pre-teen/teen girl, this would be great.

A great story for all the family to enjoy. Grown-ups may not be able to put it down.

This is an abridged version of this well known children's novel. I didn't realise that when I bought it, but it's OK.

Pollyanna
I bought this for my niece who is nine and an avid reader, she loved it. It's nice to know that some basic values still appeal to young readers.
