5.0 out of 5 stars Pure genius 3 Jun 2008
Format:Hardcover
An absolute "must have". Brilliantly written and illustrated. Every page inspired. Bought it for a friend's daughter after reading a review but had to read it first. Would appeal to everyone from age 7 to 107!

5.0 out of 5 stars adorable! and not just for children... 16 May 2008
Format:Hardcover
I bought this for my daughters, and found myself laughing out loud as I read it on the train journey home. Wonderful characters who remind you of people you know, very slightly exaggerated and with mischievous humour. Took me back to what it was like to be 12 and how I saw the world then, the sharp observations of people around, the acute, cringeing embarrassment in the presence of my parents - the diary is the perfect medium for this and Polly and the other characters are brought to life by Dee Shulman's characteristically vibrant and expressive illustrations. And I hear there will be a sequel. Thoroughly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun story full of great illustrations! 16 Jun 2012
By J.H.
Format:Hardcover
This is a fun story written in diary form of how Polly Price (a girl with a really embarrassing secret name - Hyppolita) becomes an actress on stage in America. The diary has illustrations that make you feel as if you're there when it's happening.

The story starts when Polly is on her way to America with her mum, who's a famous actress - and a vegan! (That means she doesn't eat meat, eggs or fish.) She even tells Polly not to eat chips because 'ALL FRIED FOOD IS POISON'. So it's very funny on the first morning when they are in America and Polly goes down for breakfast ... she is 'UTTERLY SPEECHLESS' to find her mum eating sausages!!

I loved reading about Polly's problems, her ups and downs. Her mom is a bit like my mom because she's always going away to London for trips. I love how hopeless her mom is, and enjoyed listening in on the whispers of Aurora and Ophelia, two teasing actresses in the story.

If you love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this book is written in the same way, with diary entries in boxes and cartoons and funny pictures to illustrate the story. Except this one is more for GIRLS!! (Though boys will enjoy it too.)
