Product Description

Product Description

When the wayward lady Imogen Swain summons journalist Jemima Shore to her home, Jemima once again finds herself in the thick of love affairs--old and new--intrigue, and betrayal. For the colorful Lady Imogen kept diaries documenting her passionate affair with a rising young politician who has since risen to high ranks in the government. Increasingly eccentric as the years have passed, Lady Imogen now threatens to reveal details of the affair, and of the subsequent and unsolved disappearance of a young journalist. Jemima's meeting with Lady Imogen is the first step in a sinister series of events which will remind the reader why Antonia Fraser is the reigning queen of murder--British style!

Entertaining read 4 Jun 2011
By Roman Clodia TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Like the other Jemima Shore books, this is a light and entertaining read. Jemima is her usual cool and detached self as she negotiates her way between political scandals in the run-up to a national election, old love affairs and theatrical murder. The whole thing is lit up by Fraser's trademark wit, intelligence, gentle satire and sympathy for her characters. Perfect for when you need a light read which doesn't sacrifice characterisation, plotting or elegant writing.

Meet Jemima Shore 15 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio Cassette
This was an easy read. No need to concentrate and easy to pick up after a couple of days. Although this suited me at the time I usually require something faster paced and meatier. Jemima Shore is an investigator, no not like V. I. Warshawski or Kinsey Milhone. Jemima is more of an investigative journalist. She has her own television programme though in this book she is trying to track down a killer and unravel an old secret. This was my first book by Fraser but I am going to track down others.

Fascinating look at murder in the past 9 Feb 2000
By Scott E Amundsen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Lady Antonia displays her interest in history by focusing this book on a murder in the distant past. As always, Jemima Shore finds herself surrounded by a cast of fascinating, eccentric characters, almost any of whom could be a murderer. Fraser is remarkably good at creating vivid characters, and none perhaps so vivid as Jemima Shore herself. Fraser is a great mystery writer; if you are an Agatha Christie fan, check out Antonia Fraser; you're in for a treat!
