5.0 out of 5 stars Police Recruitment Selection Process 26 July 2007
Format:Paperback
This book should be essential reading for anybody who is about to undertake the Police Assessment Centre process. I have read other books on this subject and this publication is far and away the best. The book is easy to read and the advice given and method of preparation recommended is the best I have seen in any book of its kind.

To achieve the required pass mark at the assessment centre it is essential to prepare well in advance. This publication will assist you in targeting your efforts and by adopting a structured approach to all the tasks. By structuring your approach to the exercises you will then be able to perform to the best of your ability on the day by demonstrating that you have the required skills in the core competencies. Some candidates have the required competencies but fail to adequately demonstrate them effectively. This publication will ensure that you do demonstrate them to the assessors.

The publication is written by an expert, a retired senior police officer who has a thorough knowledge of the selection process. By following the advice given in the publication success will no doubt follow.

I used this book in preparation for the Metropolitan Police Assessment Centre. By following the advice given, I achieved a pass mark of 79% (The pass mark was 50%) Most candidates dread the role play or what is now termed simulation exercise. By following the structured plan given in the book I actually enjoyed the exercise and achieved an A grade.

Be in no doubt, the assessment process will not be easy. Because I read the book in detail, followed the advice given and practiced the exercises, I actually enjoyed the selection event and achieved a grade far higher than I expected.

By purchasing this book, by following the author's advice and by practice and effort, success will follow. I would recommend this book 100%

I recommend this book for anyone who is about to enter the assessment centre process. The book is easy to follow and guides the reader through all of the different stages. There is a very useful section on the role-plays and how to structure them, and also good advice for how to structure the written exercises. Each stage of the assessment centre needs careful thought and planning and the book explains how to approach what is a fairly sizeable task. I used the book throughout my preparation and it definitely contributed towards my success.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for the job 17 Jun 2008
By Craig L
Format:Paperback
This book is fantastic.

In my preparation for the police selection process, I read a few books. Some were good, some not so good. This book however was fantastic, from start to finish it let me know exactly what to expect.

The ability to practise the written exercises close to how they would be on the day was invaluable. By knowing exactly what was expected of me I was able to identify my own weaknesses and work on them, ensuring that I went into the assessment centre with confidence in all areas.

The most reassuring thing about this book is that it has been written by a retired senior police office, who clearly knows his stuff.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through the police selection process.
