Product Description

Product Description

This text describes the written test that forms part of the selection process for the police forces of England and Wales, also providing ample practice material on verbal usage, checking, number problems, and verbal logical reasoning. It also suggests how to practice observation skills, which are tested on video during selection procedures. The material is based on actual tests prepared for police forces by the authors; similar tests are used by many UK fire services, as well as police services abroad.

When I passed through the paper sift stage of my Police application, I ordered this book on the recommendation from a close friend before going to Centrex. As other people have mentioned, the questions are not that difficult. But for people like myself who had not done any maths since high school, it brought me back up to what will get a pass or fail - SPEED. In the PIRT you will have to race through the numerical questions as quickly as possible to complete the test. So the quicker you get into practice the better you will perform on the day. The book contains sample questions similar to the ones on the test so you can't go wrong.
On the verbal logical reasoning, again, it provides examples of past questions but speed is not the agenda here. Its all about judgement and even though I had an issue with a couple of answers, the practice was justified in preparation for the day itself. Use this book to prepare and get up to speed. Even a couple of marks will make all the difference when your feedback arrives in the post a few days later!! Good Luck.

I have to say I didn't find the PIRT test that hard, I think I would have got through it without this book......but having gone through the exercises in the book my confidence was sky high for the test, and it allowed me to relax whilst I was doing it. If you're already a total smarty pants I wouldn't bother buying this book, but if you need help or just a confidence boost then it's money well spent.

The authors of this book have granted the reader with a simplistic format that provides an excellent medium from which to prepare for the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT). I was completely in the dark about what to expect in the PIRT, but this book has 'shown me the light.' The book is written in a way that provides detailed notes but not in a 'textbook' fasion. The questions are explained in a concise manner enabling all abilities to benefit from this superb title.
