In the wake of ZENYATTA MONDATTA's massive success, the Police edged even further into sophisticated textures and exotic rhythms on their 1981 follow-up, GHOST IN THE MACHINE. This rare concert film captures the GHOST-era Police in a live performance recorded at Gateshead, England, on July 31, 1982, including electrifying renditions of 'Invisible Sun,' 'Spirits in the Material World,' and 'Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.'

Ghost In The Machine Live is definitely worth watching but you do cringe throughout with the help of the three horn players in the background and Stings annoying synth foot-piano interrupting a good Police set. They open with a very shaky version of message in a bottle, but as you get into the concert a lot of the songs really open up and the Police really do shine. Demolition man has never had so much energy, Andy Summers really lets lose on it, Shadows in the Rain gets expanded with a lot of trippy Summers improv, Bring On The Night is very enjoyable as well. But a lot of the songs are kept to short. The Police were headlining this music festival in Newcastle, so they were the last band to play, seems to me they were trying to fit in as much songs as possible into there set. In all this concert is raw and Policesque, but Stings foot piano and the horn section do give it a sour note. I understand the need for the trumpets on the likes of Demolition Man because there on the studio album, but to include them in nearly every song makes this performance more like a Sting all-star show band. If you liked Stings Bring on the Night album, this is it's father. But with more Copeland/Summers injection.

Love this dvd, not just because i was there as a 16 yr old fan but because the music was, and is, great!

Just been to see The Police in Manchester on their last tour and I can't get enough of their music at the moment.

This dvd is superb, I can relive memories, thanks for releasing this in the Uk
