Never heard of John Donoghue before I came across this book on Amazon Kindle Store.
For those who are interested in headline-like reviews, here it is: Very quickly I got hooked to its excellently executed prose, distinctively humorous vocabulary, and the plethora of peculiar, odd, and fantastic trials and tribulations of a police officer on his first year on the job.

I started reading this and from the first few pages it got my attention full on. I loved the writer's unique perspective of events and his internalised interpretation, putting you on the front sit of his thoughts as events unfolded. It genuinely had been a very long time since I read a book that it does not take itself too seriously and instead it welcomes you to take a ride along the endless events and incidents that our protagonist responded to. Thoroughly enjoyable and thoroughly funny. Reading and laughing so much is very refreshing indeed. I had no idea how good this book will be, and I can tell you that it delivered! I recommended it to so many people, and if Amazon was doing kindle book gifts, I would have already given quite a few to some friends.
Cannot wait to get started on the next instalment and see what happens next in the life of the police officer.

I decided to read this off the back of other reviews and comments from twitter. I am so glad I did. This book is full of fun and laughter and in some cases a real eye opener into what our fine Police force face each and every day.

If you need a giggle, then this will provide many.

Police Crime & 999 gives an absolutely hilarious insight into the side of modern policing often not reported with fantastic tales behind the blaring sirens of rushing police cars and the hands on side of policing. From a crowd drunken travellers hellbent on robbing a dead body to a mother with the most amazing threat ever to a bold child you will be bent over with laughter from the very first page.

Unputdownable!

An entertaining twist of life in the thin blue line. Everything from Eyeore to Dracula, from dogs to custody suites. The fun times and the hard times. It's a book you just want to keep reading, loved every minute. Go out and get this book, it's a crime if you don't.
This book was even funnier after reading it for the second time after finding the little bits I missed the first time.

This book is perhaps THE best Police based book I have ever read! It is very well written, researched and presented. From the opening chapter to the very last it will have you enthralled, laughing and mesmerised by Policing in todays Society. I gave the book 5 stars and it IS WORTH IT! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to you and at under £4.00 it is, pardon the pun, a steal!

I bought this book as a Christmas 'extra' for my son but then made the mistake of reading the 'Introduction'... I actually found myself laughing out loud.. I mean, really, think about it, when did you last read a book that had you audibly laughing within a couple of minutes.. hmmm ok.. so maybe its just got a funny intro, I'll give it that.. though perhaps I should read the first page or two..
Before I knew it, the housework became a quick flick around with the duster while spraying the polish into the air (don't judge, you've all done it).. followed by hoovering up the worst bits.. putting jacket spuds into the oven and falling back onto the sofa to carry on reading... Christmas shopping was put on hold.. I'm a Celebrity took a backseat and even facebook and twitter became neglected while I continued to read on..
Do I really need to emphasize further how much I enjoyed this book? no, I think you get the point..
I do however, highly recommend "Police, Crime & 999" by John Donoghue, to anyone blessed with a lively sense of humour..

This book is a real classic. It's funny, addictive and insightful. The stories will make you laugh out loud and you will spend most of your time trying to read segments of the narrative to your nearest and dearest as it's too good not to pass on. A great book for anyone - you don't need to be intrigued by the workings of the police to love reading it but, if you are, there is plenty of juicy detail which is presented in an enjoyable and easy to read way. The wittiest yarn I have read for a very, very long time.

From the very beginning of this hilarious book I was constantly struggling to suppress uncontrollable fits of laughter whilst travelling in crowded trains.
Each chapter is ideally self-contained with a subject of it's own, making it ideal to pick up and put down at whim.
Who knew a career in the police force was so entertaining, almost made me think of switching jobs until I came to a chapter that turned my stomach to say the least. I wouldn't like to be the one to clean those cells!

A truly funny and fascinating insight into the ups and downs of a policeman's day.

I now have the utmost respect for the difficult job that our police force has to do, especially under difficult staffing circumstances and having to deal with the most difficult elements of society imaginable. Well done!

I can't wait for the sequel.
