I bought this for use with my iPhone. I have the Diffcase for the phone which has two tripod bushes on.

It's ideal for this use. Holding the iPhone when doing video is always awkward and it's so easy to get your finger in front of the lens or even drop it if you are pushed. With this pistol grip you have a good hold of the phone and can get angles that would be impossible by just holding the phone, especially high angle shots at arms length. Try doing that holding the phone between thumb and forefinger without dropping it.

With a heavier video camera at arms length it is difficult to keep still. My hands are pretty steady but there is a noticeable rotational movement in the recordings. This isn't a fault of the grip, just a limitation of the human arm. There is nothing stopping you from holding it in your right hand like a gun and griping the top of it with your left hand. This would increase stability

The plate that holds the screw that fixes to the base of the camera is on a pivot so that it can be tilted. It has click stops so you can have it at different positions. When it is positioned anywhere but horizontal (in pistol grip mode) it has slight wobble.

It's made from some sort of plastic which does the job well but exudes a strong inner-tube type smell. Maybe if there was a screw clamp instead of a spring release to adjust the angle it might have felt a but more solid.

I like it and for £8.99 you can't go wrong.

The Polaroid Pistol grip brings ease into the filming equation, this little devise has helped me get a more realistic view especially when trying to gain a 'first person' view. This Grip/tripod is also very useful when trying to obtain a shot in an
action sequence as it brings a certain amount of shake which ads to the dramatic effect of an action shot.

However I would not recommend this product to someone who is only looking for a smooth gliding motion in their shot, for this I personally would recommend a dolly on a dolly track. I found this grip difficult to keep still as I have a very minor shake as it is and so using this grip further away from me, with my arm extended, I found to be a setback.

Overall I rate this product at 4 stars as it deserves the merit it receives for action and moving shots but let it's self down on slow and steady shots.

Using this with a new HD video camera. I got the camera as it was smaller and lighter than my old one and I have a damaged tendon in my wrist that makes holding a video camera for an extended period painful. However, even with the smaller, lighter camera I was still struggling. This grip improves the handling of camera a lot and helps ease pressure on my wrist. I've only given 4 stars as the tripod configuration feels a little fragile, if you have a smaller and lighter video its fine but heavier and larger ones feel a little unstable. I tried it with my old JVC hard disk recorder and would not have wanted to trust it not to provide a stable, shake free platform. However, with one of the newer cameras its very good.

First the good: The hinge with the platform that actually attached to the camera is ratcheted which is good, and is released when you squeeze the grey buttons on the sides. I had worried that it would simply be a stiff hinge which may move due to the weight of the camera but it is nice and sturdy. In tripod mode it is a good solid base for a compact camera or DSLR with smaller lens.

Now the bad: I don't know what sort of plastic they have used on this but the handle has a slightly soft rubbery grip texture to it and this smells like petrol. It was overpowering when I first opened the packaging filling the room with its oder and despite leaving it out to air for several weeks, handling it still makes my hands smell like petrol.

If this did not stink I would really like it but find I am reluctant to use it because of the smell.

I was expecting quality from Polaroid. Never again. This looks, feels, and works like a chinese counterfeit. I'd guess it's made from recycled tyres or cheap plastic. Weigh balance as a tripod is ok, as a pistol grip is rubbish, unless you have arms like The Popeye. I wouldn't buy it and I can only recommend looking for something else.

I bought this primarily as a desktop tripod for my shotgun microphone for when filming interview like segments, however i have on occasion also used it as a pistol grip for the same microphone when a boom pole wasn't appropriate, and for this it is perfect. however I'm not sure i would trust it for my much heavier camera, but that's not specific to this product, i do not believe pistol grips are good for cameras, but its brilliant as a tripod and good for my microphone

An excellent item,so totally handy when used as a table tripod, for sneaky shooting!
As a straightforward pistol grip,it is comfortable to hold, and easy to adjust the shooting angle.
All in all, great to have in your gadget bag,and I recommend it to any and all video or still photographers.5 stars!
