Product Description

This Polaroid 48 macro LED ring flash attaches to most brand hot shoes (except Sony, need adapter) and macro-capable lenses with mounting ring diameters between 49mm-77mm- eight adapters are included with this package. The power pack attaches to the cameras hot shoe through which all synchronizing electrical signals travel.

You can control the output level of the LEDs and select all or half of them to fire - 48 LEDs for full lighting , 24 LEDs to create purposeful shadows on three dimensional subjects. You will also be able to change from flash firing mode to constant on. Constant on will let the camera decide which exposure is best and provide continuous light when using video cameras or the HD video mode in compatible digital cameras.

Adding to the versatility of this macro flash unit are four light softening diffuser - translucent, warming, white, blue. It has a power saving LCD screen for longer use.

A ring light is the best source for close up photography. And that makes the Polaroid macro LED ring flash the perfect choice for amateurs and advanced photographers alike who require shadow free illumination - perfect for medical, scientific and forensic photography.

I needed to use a flash with my Sigma 105mm macro lens and found this by accident on Amazon at an amazing price. Firstly, to avoid any doubt this is not a TTL Ring flash or an Orbis.I am sure both are much better products but will also cost you a great deal more. I was interested in seeing whether this might be a stop gap measure to help illuminate my macro photography subjects with bright even light with my Sigma 105mm lens. I was not disappointed with this product . It hasn't let me down and is easy to use. The main pros are:
The LED ring flash has three options, full light, right light (half LED used) or left light((half LED used). It always works with My Nikon D90.
The LED options are selectable from the clear LED screen mounted on the base of the camera's hot shoe which also contains the batteries.
Various filter attachments to suit different size lenses and diffusers (which I have not used)
The product is well constructed for the price
Cons
I don't expect it to be as good as the Orbis or a TTL Ring flash (which cost about about 4 times more in the case of the Orbis or 10 times more for a TTL Ring flash)

It's not something to make you gasp in amazement, but for the money it is quite ok.

First thing is that switching it on/off is not intuitive nor explained in the 'manual'. First of all I thought I had a dud, then found that the on/off switch responds to a long press. So far, so good.

The 7 adapter rings allow this to be used with 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67 and 77 mm lenses - but they're made of plastic, so be careful not to cross-thread one, or it'll be useless. But that sure gives you a lot of options.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the light output at even the lowest setting is blinding. My first few attempts at getting a reasonable picture were a washed out mess.
But, other than the clear diffuser, there is a nice white frosted one, which softens the light, and perhaps the orange or blue diffusers can also be useful.

Everything about this thing is 'plastic' - but if you overlook that, it has potential.

Once I played a bit with camera settings I found I could get better results with a bit of thought.
That said - if you're really in close it's not going to work. I'd say you'd need to be at least 12" away from the subject.

But, at 1/10 the price of a camera-branded ring flash, it's not bad at all.

Bought to use with my canon when taking videos. Does the job ok on full power but blinding. As soon as you reduce the brightness starts to buzz with lowest power setting the loudest. Audible on all videos taken; just very annoying. Otherwise does what it says it does.

Brilliant value for the money and well made great flexibility with the variable power on LEDs the only minus I can find is the clamp on the adaptor restricts the focus I got by this by loosening the adaptor ring so as focus was free moving

Needed a ring flash to complement my main one for macro photo's --- the choice of this one became a no brainer ---- the name / price and having multiple filters meant it gave me all the light moods I needed for close up work

Arrived well packaged and on time. Works well and shows improvement over other macro photos without extra light. Worth a punt at this price.

I have a Sony Alpha 58. For this to fit you need to buy the Sony ADP-MAA Multi Interface Shoe. All works well. Good for the price.

For its price, it's an excellent source of diffuse light, either as a flash or permanently on. Great for macro photography. Gives nice sparkly catchlights when used without the diffusers. Auto flash exposure didn't seem to work with my Panasonic LX7, so I switched it to permanently-on and used it as a ring lamp, to let the camera's normal auto exposure catch up. Battery life is not then so good! Even so, five stars for the price, as a handy light source.
