I though I had found a Bargain... But...

I have a Polaroid Freescape. Had it for less than a week. Crashed 3 times on the first day connecting it to PC.
Crashes constantly and requires paperclip to reset. Had problems connecting to wifi network and doesn't seem to store settings sometimes? but it did automatically update firmeware once online though yet to download Podcast!

Requires windows media player to sync files across to the PMP, which I don't use any media player only K-lite media player classic. I have problems getting it to recognise Genre after copying across files or albums. MP3 headers set using ID3Tag.

Video took a bit of sorting
xvid codecs
bitrate 512kbps (though can go higher)
video size 320x240 (despite its screen size)
frame rate 24

Audio

2 Channel (Stereo)
44100Hz
Bitrate 96kbps

apparently it also supports H264 codec but I can't get that to work only WMA and AVI, xvid (good picture)

I paid �79 from amazon though I wouldn't buy again I would go for a solid state flash drive instead! not bad for a cheap External 60GB drive with an onboard player. But really the crashes make it nearly unusable?

I gave this product 5 stars and a great review when I had been using it for about two weeks. The company I bought from, Luzerntech.com have been great, shame about the product! After about a month the machine decided to stop synchronising and refused to load any music tracks, the main reason for buying it. It crashed continually and really can only be recommended as a doorstop. I sent the first machine back, received another one and off I went again. Same problems, constant crashes and resets and eventually I gave up and with a sigh of relief sent it back whence it came. Hopefully I'll get my money back!
I know chicken's are said to come home to roost but you don't expect a deep frozen turkey to come straight through your roof! This is a classic example of a good little machine let down by appalling software that just doesn't work. So minus five points to Polaroid. I couldn't change the points ranking on the review but trust me, they don't deserve any points at all. If you have bought one and have trouble with yours don't contact Polaroid as they haven't quite grasped the concept of customer and service and definitely don't care. I phoned to explain that my model wasn't working and was told 'well the one I've got works fine'. I was thrilled to know that! I don't hold much hope for them surviving the Credit Crunch. They certainly don't deserve to.

The Original Review:
Small it isn't but this is a very nice bundle. Given that it's cheaper than chips (thanks Owen) this is a brilliant bit of kit. 60 gb, so that's less than a pound a gigabyte and a very clean, smart looking, well finished machine too. Lovely big screen and clear easy to use controls, which is good as the handbook is brief, sparse and simple so better to play with the thing and find your way around. The FM radio is easy to use and so is the MP3, it took 20 minutes to transfer my music collection, over 250 cds, from my hard drive onto the Freescape. Pictures are equally easy to download and I can't be bothered with Video or TV as I have a nice big television in my lounge. Perhaps when I have too much time on my hands. All in all a great package, I don't agree with the other reviews, although you do need that paperclip.

Sorry I do agree with the other reviews...it just took a while to realise what utter rubbish this machine really is. Send it back before your guarantee runs out, get a refund and buy something (anything) else. In the final analysis it's cheap rubbish, not worth the frustration and annoyance of trying to get it to work, which is lucky because it doesn't.

if you want to end up with less hair than ive got do not by this,i now have the back off all the time to unplug the batery (a pin should come as an esentual piece of kit) the radio is usless, i bought this for the long flights i have to do and i am not going to be stuck with this for 11 hours on a plane.
