3.0 out of 5 stars Review of polaroid studio series 31 Oct 2011
Size Name:36 LED IR
Having purchased a specialist converted I.R camcorder to film night time animals, badgers etc. in my garden this lamp seemed the ideal. BUT it's range is very limted, possibly 10 foot max. so I am having to buy a stronger lamp, about 12.00 and then a filter for that 8.00 - for the job. The polaroid is neat, light and easy, but possibly only useful in a studio or indoor close range situation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough, but a little overpriced. 19 Mar 2012
Size Name:36 LED IR|Verified Purchase
Although the item is pictured as having a US plug, it does not state anywhere in the description that this is actually what you get. In my opinion, you should state precisely in the description what is included. So, for anyone looking to buy this item in the UK, make sure you have a US/UK adaptor handy, because you will need it. The claims on the packaging are a little optimistic - I've found that in average conditions, its only possible to see up to 10 feet, rather than the stated 20-30 feet. And for the performance of the unit, the price is a little too much - I'd expect to pay somewhere between 20 and 25 for this item. But, if you're prepared to pay a little over the odds for a decent IR light that doesn't quite live up to its claims, go ahead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful 12 Dec 2012
Size Name:36 LED IR
Very discreet, Even the red glow is almost invisible.

Very good for indoor, due to the IR light reflecting off the walls I got a good 20-25 feet of light.
However, outside unless you are aiming it at an object 10 feet (or less) away then you wont see much IR light.

Most cameras/camcorders filter out IR/UV light, I have been using a moddded camcorder.

Overall pleased with the item.

4.0 out of 5 stars my new lighting buddy 27 Aug 2012
Size Name:312 LED|Verified Purchase
This product came within a few days of ordering and within a few days of my deadline. I had discovered the exact model direct from china and the price from Amazon was very competitive. It does what it says on the tin. The lighting at full blast is enough to illuminate a couple on a dance floor 15 feet away and allow me to cover an entire evening at a venue, interviewing folks sitting in semi-darkness and I've no 'gain' on the camera and no noise in my footage.
The colour temperature control is brilliant, the dim option doesn't actually start at zero, it's always at a low level, so don't expect it to go from black up to full illumination.
With two supplied batteries and the light on at full illumination I got about two solid hours, that's good in my book.
The little ball joint attachment is SHEYTE, throw it away, not worth fiddling with it, yes it's solidly constructed but it's crap. When I finally got the light attached solidly to the handle, I held it in my left hand, the camera on a tripod or held in my right hand and I was able to adjust the dim and the colour temperature with my thumb because of the easy access and reach of both thumbwheels, brilliant.
Other downside. I picked a 312 LED light because I expected to get 312 leds working. You have 156 white and 156 yellow leds. The colour temperature controls mean that as you vary the temperature, the white ones dim and the yellow ones increase, they balance each other out, naturally. At full white colour temperature you only have 156 leds illuminating and the same when you have full yellow colour temp. I didn't get that when I researched the product, but of course it makes sense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Polaroid 112 bulb led light 22 Nov 2011
By Mig
Size Name:112 LED
This light really is good, and the infinitely variable dimmer is a real boon. I used this light at a wedding when filming the couple leaving in a Cadillac in the dark grounds of a castle. The colour rendition/balance is first class. The only complaints I have is that the barn door fitting is flimsy and doesn't attach too well, and you have to be careful when putting the light in and out of your bag, as it is too easy to nudge the 'on' switch and run your batteries down lighting up the inside of your bag! Overall, really good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 19 Aug 2013
By Louisew
Size Name:36 LED IR|Verified Purchase
I have a sony comcorder with super nightshot, and used this in addition, to film turtles laying. It was pitch black conditions, and although it didn't help much at 20 feet, you could see the difference at closer shooting, quite dramatically. So pretty happy that it did the job filming an pretty amazing event.

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money 20 Oct 2012
Size Name:36 LED IR|Verified Purchase
what a load of rubbish, even after a full charge I was lucky to be able to see 30cm in front of the camera. Tried a couple of cameras & locations to make sure that wasn't the problem. It doesnt do as it says so dont waste your money. Extremely disappointed with this purchase and returned it :/ (gave it 1 star coz i had to otherwise it would have got 0 )

2.0 out of 5 stars short battery life 19 Oct 2012
Size Name:112 LED
Happy with the quality of the light itself, have used it to get dramatic, arty lighting in an otherwise pitch dark environment. Photos come out sharp and with acceptable colour noise. So, acceptable for the affordable price.

The only trouble is the battery life 'length' - it seems like it depends a little which type of batteries I use - but a battery pack can finish in less than half an hour - and this is not even with continuous use. On top of this, the quality light described above sometimes only lasts for ca 10 mins, then i have to put up with a much weaker light for the rest of that battery-pack's life length. As I said, it seem to depend of what make batteries I use, last time I got cheapish supermarket brand ones and they seemed to last longer than the alkaline branded ones i'd previously used.

So a bit touch and go, this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not strong enough
Neither the pivot or tilt 'locks' are not strong enough to hold a standard flash (Sony HVL-F42AM) and it just flops down even when tightened up as tight as humanly possible. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed.
The light itself is reasonably well-made, though the ball joint gizmo used to connect the light to the hot shoe (or cold shoe on a camcorder) is not up to much. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars LED Light Bar
The light is quite bright, and because it can be used away from the camera was just what I was looking for. But it was a bit smaller than anticipated.
