Review

This is a management book like no other – you′re going to laugh, cry…and come away with plenty to think about.’ (The Bookbag.co.uk, May 2011).

Product Description

Conquer complacency and transform your team into a happy, winning crew.

Polar Bear Pirates are highly focused, successful characters, they can’t help but motivate everyone around them and just like you; they love to have some fun.

In their latest quest, they take on the Sleepwalkers, the workplace zombies who are with you in body but never take a step beyond the ordinary because their minds have drifted into sleep mode. Going through the motions, thinking the same old stuff and delivering the same results, they stand out like beacons of disappointment.

Sleepwalkers can be found orbiting Planet Complacency. This place is in the arch enemy of success! It is a huge planet, more powerful than the inhospitable Rock Bottom, it appears to be a comfortable, safe and popular place to be. Yet this silent assassin is responsible for snuffing out millions of dreams and kidnapping untold potential.

Stepping Beyond Ordinary

The Polar Bear Pirates’ mission is to re–awaken dormant talent and release untapped potential. Join them and meet a cast of amazing characters, from Neg Ferrets and Bloaters, to Amps and Vamps. One thing’s for sure, you’ll come out the other side inspired and ready to get the best out of your team and the people around you.

Polar Bear Pirates shows you how to motivate everyday people to deliver extraordinary results.

By David Burton VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I'm not sure I'm completely sold on turning all your colleagues into cartoon character stereotypes, but the general message about how to maintain energy in a team and get it functioning as smoothly as possible makes a lot of sense.
While I'm not a manager, it pointed me at a couple of behavioural patterns I was falling into myself, and if nothing else the book proved useful for looking at my job from a different perspective. Looking at a team from a perspective of who is energising and motivating others, and how just because someone is in a relatively lowly position they're no less a person shifts away from the personal 'whats in it for me' perspective, and I'm sure that many who read this will at least gain a more balanced perspective on their own job.
Because of the writing style it's not necessarily a book I'd feel that comfortable passing on to a manager to read, but despite that I do think it's worthwhile reading - it is, after all, getting the message across in a short enough book to be readable in a single evening.

Listened to Adrian at a conference, was impressed by his energy and delivery; decided to buy the book. The book contains more detail of the items covered in his presentation, is easily read and is a useful tool for those managing people.

I had the pleasure of seeing Adrian Webster in action at a conference in Harrogate recently, he was absolutely brilliant! Adrian's new book is inspiring, a lot of fun, and just like his first book, wonderfully different. It's makes such a refreshing change to read a book written by someone who has hands on experience of trying to motivate teams of real people on shoestring budgets - in today's workplace. Adrian has a unique style, he is able to convey the most complex motivational messages in such an engaging way. This simple, easy to read book offers more practical advice in just a few pages than the vast majority of those stuffy theoretical management books will ever offer in several volumes.
