Body Measurement Features:
Automatic age-based target zone – bpm / %
To help you train safely and effectively, the training computer determines your heart rate target zone limits automatically according to your age-based maximum heart rate (220 minus age). The limits are determined either in beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage (%) of your maximum heart rate, or as a heart rate reserve (% HRR). See also Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and Manual target zone.Heart rate – bpm / %
Heart rate is the measurement of the work your heart does. Heart rate can be expressed as the number of beats per minute or as percentage of your maximum heart rate. Heart rate can also be expressed as a percentage of your heart rate reserve, meaning the difference between your resting heart rate and maximum heart rate (HRR = HRmax - HRrest). In Polar software or during strength training, heart rate can be displayed as a graphical trend.HR-based target zones with visual and audible alarm
You can define your target zones for a training session based on heart rate to help define the right intensity. When you are out of the preset zones, the training computer will give a visual and audible alarm.Manual target zone – bpm / %
This feature enables you to define the target zone as you want and is suitable for your training. You can set the target zone for your training as beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, or as a percentage of your heart rate reserve (HRR%).Polar Fitness Test
Polar Fitness Test measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes. The result, Polar OwnIndex, evaluates your maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). With the Polar Fitness Test you can measure your aerobic fitness by yourself, automatically and without any exertion. All you need is your training computer. The Polar Fitness Test is as accurate in predicting the VO2max as any sub maximal fitness test. The test is based on heart rate and heart rate variability at rest and personal information.Polar OwnCal® – calorie expenditure with fat percentage
Polar OwnCal calculates the number of kilocalories expended during training. This feature allows you to follow the kilocalories expended during one training session and cumulative kilocalories expended during several training sessions. Some Polar products also estimate the fat-burning percentage (fat% on display), that is, kilocalories expended from fat during a workout which is expressed as a percentage of the total kilocalories burned.Polar OwnCode® (5kHz) – coded transmission
Coded heart rate transmission automatically locks in a code to transmit your heart rate to the training computer. The training computer picks up your heart rate from your transmitter only. Coding prevents interference from other training computers.Polar OwnZone® – personal heart rate zone
Polar OwnZone® determines your personal heart rate limits for a training session. Depending on the day and time, your physical state may vary, for instance, if you are stressed or tired, or if you are not fully recovered from your latest training session, Polar can determine that information from your heart rate and guide you to your ideal training zone for that moment.Polar STAR Training Program
The adaptive and personalized Polar STAR Training Program helps you reach your training targets. The training program gives you weekly targets, including intensity and duration, for your training. The Polar STAR Training Program is based on your fitness level, activity level, training goal and personal information (weight, height, age and sex).Recording Features:
Totals
Totals includes your training data starting from the last reset enabling you to follow your long-term training.Weekly history
Weekly history gathers your weekly training data. By selecting a week, you can review your training data for the week.Training features:
Graphical target zone indicator
This feature points out graphically on the display the zone you are in during a training session helping you to stay on the desired intensity zone.HeartTouch – button-free operation of wrist unit
When HeartTouch is on, different training information during training can be accessed without pressing buttons, for instance, when gloves make pressing buttons difficult, by bringing your training computer close to your transmitter.ZoneLock
ZoneLock feature helps you to accumulate certain intensity. You can either lock a zone before a training session or during it by pressing a button when you are on the desired zone.ZonePointer
ZonePointer is a visible and moving symbol on the training computer display indicating whether you are inside the pre-set target zone. This feature helps you to reach the desired intensity targets.Watch Features:

Best fitness purchase ever !!,
By Pete McG (Kent) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Polar FT60M Heart Rate Monitor (Sports)
I have had the FT60 for two months and I use it mainly for jogging/running. Having read other reviews I bought the white and black face rather than the red. I was quite suprised when I opened it as it is better looking than in the photos. The top and bottom of the face is framed in metal, and the yellow marks by the buttons are much paler in the flesh - I thought in the photos it looked rather cheap, but that is not the case. The strap is also very comfy, with lots of adjustment available.
I bought a Polar FT7, but found it very basic, and having looked at Polar forums, I returned it and upgraded to the FT60, and having used it for a couple of weeks, I then bought a Flowlink to connect to my PC, and a S1 footpod, which is a great addition. Compared to the FT7, the FT60 is in a different league! I'm 43 and had been running on and off (more off!!) for about 5 years, doing a couple of months, then stopping for a few - not very productive. Prior to getting the FT60, I'd been running a couple of times a week for about 10 months, not really enjoying it, and managing about 20 mins, so a max of 45 - 60 mins a week. I was getting fed up, as I didn't seem to be progressing, and longed for the day when I could enjoy it rather than it being a chore. As I'm sure you've read in other reviews, the FT60 STAR programme sets weekly targets. These are based on data you've entered, a test it does of your fitness, the goals you've set, and the amount of time you tell it you have available to train. Each Sunday night, if you've achieved your targets, it plays a melody, gives you up to three stars, and a trophy appears on the screen! It sounds silly, but this really motivates you, I find myself having to go out to make sure I've reached that weeks target so I can get my trophy. The thing it has really made me do is slow down to keep in the correct target heart rate zones - before I was going to hard, and feeling puffed and only covering short distances. Within a few short weeks, I am now running for 5 and a half hours a week, and covering about 40kms. Last week one morning I ran for 15kms, and am now finding it really enjoyable - exactly what I'd been longing to achieve! At first I was having to go really slow to keep in the correct zones, but already my fitness has improved as the watch has upped my targets, and I can now go faster with less effort, which is fantastic. The S1 footpod works really well - it's not that big, and you'd never know you had it on, and the battery life is good. I've tested it against the GPS on my smartphone, and it's quite accurate, and to know how far you've run is really motivating. To sum up, the ability to work at the correct intensity, and being set goals has really transformed my fitness and motivation - and my clothes have gone from size XLarge to Medium :-)

Good functions shame about the display.,

I have been using the watch now for two months it has great features and I really like it.
But the black on red display (which looks really cool) is very hard to read except in ideal lighting conditions. If I was buying this watch again I would get the one with the 'normal lcd' screen. I have also had problems with bugs (These bugs should have been resolved in new versions) in the monitors software which cause the stored totals to corrupt. This issue can be resolved by sending the monitor to Polar support for an update (mine is with them at the moment).

Great watch. Poor face.,
By Mr Stuart Wilson (Dunblane, Perthshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Polar FT60M Heart Rate Monitor (Sports)
This really is a great watch in terms of functionality. I use it for Spin and it has transformed my workout. I'm not longer counting down the clock, but working harder to beat the previous calorie count. The heart rate monitor also syncs with the spin bike and appears on the bike's display. The biggest disappointment is the black on red face. It is fine in daylight; but useless in any reduced light situation (such as a spin class). There is a light on it which helps, but it would be better if you could see it constantly. However, it is considerably cheaper than comparable watches with standard face displays, so if you can live with this flaw it's well worth the money.
