Good job you get the "2D" version as well as the 3D as the 3D is VERY poor. Continual ghosting, especially on close up faces, the (included) red & blue glasses cause whites to almost flash with interfereing colours and some parts of the film simply can't be made out at all.

On the positive side, some of the 3D work is beautiful, it seems particular care was put into some 3D scenes? Snowflakes do look like they are 2' into your living room, some perspective scenes are superb, but your eyes will hurt by the end of the film.

I'm happy with the purchase, I've got Polar Express 2D on bluray and on DVD in this set, together with a good list of extras and bonuses. The 3D was great to experience (to see the good, high quality snippets) but I doubt I'll be watching that again.

In essence, I'd have definitely paid this price for the 'standard' bluray alone, so no grumbles that the 3D one isn't great.

Unwatchable in 3D 10 Nov 2009
Format:Blu-ray
I am basing my rating on the 3D version of the Polar Express blu-ray. The film is one of my all time favorites, and the 2D blu-ray edition is fantastic. HOWEVER the 3D version, on either Blu-ray or standard DVD is horrendous and is genuinely entirely unwatchable.
I cannot believe that a company like Warner Bros can allow something like this to be distributed. It seems that the colours of the supplies glasses are incompatable with the colours used to create the 3D effect on the film. Please do not buy this for the 3D version, you will be very disappointed.

I was really excited about the new version - I already have The Polar Express on DVD but after seeing it at the Imax in 3D, I was looking forward to a little bit of that magic in my home.

I know that home 3D with those cheap coloured glasses won't ever rival the Imax's, but home 3D can work very well (Journey to the Center of the Earth has great 3D effects).

However, as stated elsewhere, the 3D here goes from 'slight' to headache-inducing blurred double-images - my other half could only stand 5 minutes before she had a migraine.

I really do think they've mis-authored the disc, but then that begs the question - "why did they release it in this state?"

It's saving grace is that it includes the 2D blu-ray version, which has very good picture and sound quality.

Buy it for that reason alone.

Do not buy from Gowingstoreltd, not as described!
Beware Gowingstoreltd are selling the new Bluray 3D version that needs the new equipment. It is NOT the older version shown on the images, i.e with 4 sets of red/green glasses.

Be careful about the 3D
If you want this item, make sure you order the new version with Real 3D not the original with the paper glasses which is useless!

Fantastic in active shutter 3d US import
I would state that this is a reference 3d movie with the right equipment. We ordered a US import and viewed it of a JVC DLA X7 100 inch screen using a Sony 3d Blu Ray Player. Read more

The Polar Express 3D
This was an excellent film. I enjoyed it. Not just for the effects, but, for the film itself as a story too. If you get to see this, you will not be disappointed.
