Product Description

Product Description

Readers will be as captivated as Norbert is by the charm and playfulness of these bears. The skin underneath the clear hair of their white fur is a surprising black. A favourite meal is a seal, which they often pull out of seal breathing holes in the ice. Norbert's detailed knowledge of the polar bear is framed through his adventures in the wild. Once his camp was attacked by a polar bear with a toothache, and he had to be rescued by helicopter. He's had his tires slashed by a polar bear, almost became a polar bear lunch when his truck became stuck in a snowdrift, and nearly lost his fingertips to frostbite. But he keeps returning to the beautiful Arctic landscape to the company of his favorite animal. Polar bears are suffering from a changing climate. As the Earth warms, polar bears are finding it harder to survive - many have been found drowned as pack ice has melted more quickly than expected, and many are going hungry due to shorter hunting time on the ice. The plight of the polar bear helps kids connect a concrete consequence with global warming, and Norbert Rosing offers suggestions on what they can do to help. As with each "Face to Face" book, helpful and accessible back matter especially designed for report writers includes a facts at a glance section, a conservation feature, a science inquiry exercise, a glossary, an index, and how to find out more.

Great introduction 8 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful introduction to the world of polar bears for wildlife loving children. I've worked with the National Geographic a couple of times in the arctic and I can say they are great at capturing animals in their natural environment with respect and sensitivity. I do miss the white world of home.

I bought this book for a speech I was doing in college and it came in very handy. It gave information about Global warming and some things we can do to help stop it. It is a good book and I think children will find it interesting. It talks about the polar bear's life style, what they eat, how long they live, etc. Overall it is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.
