This game has received alot of hate over the years, which has always confused me. i am a MASSIVe fan of the pokemon series, but pokemon has always essentially been a 2d game and always been afraid about taking the fullfledged step into 3d and i thought this game was a step in the right direction. it doesn't have the cliched beginning, and i the only shortcoming in this game is the repetitive music. definitley pick it up if you are a fan of pokemon

Great Game 23 Feb 2012

This game is great. Good story (although slightly repetitive) This is the second copy I've owned. I had it when I was younger and brought it again to relive the game. It was better than I though as a child.

The story is solid and can be tricky at times, Just had to train up a bit! The innovation of snatching others Pokemon works well but they should add the ability to catch wild Pokemon (They have in Gale of Darkness XD) Double battles are always fun and introduce new strategies to battling.

Any Pokemon fan should buy this game!

This game is a really good idea. It's a pokemon RPG (role playing game) where you can watch the pokemon actually doing the moves, instead of tiny little pictures not moving very much like the original games do.

I rate this game a 3 because at first, it is highly addictive and really good fun, but the novelty soon wears off because there isn't a huge amount to do.

In RPG mode, you play 'seth' who is charged with snagging back all the shadow pokemon from various trainers and the bad guys team snagem. You are joined by a girl who can see the dark auras of the shadow pokemon, she's really not much use for anything else as far as i can tell, more for diversities sake than anything else. The storyline is a little laking in my opinion, and the constant battles become tedious rather quickly.

In battle mode, you can fight with pre-determined pokemon at various levels of difficulty, or hook up your gameboy advance and play with pokemon from your ruby, sapphire or emerald games.

I feel that this game could have done with a lot more in RPG mode to make it worthwhile. For example, you can only catch shadow pokemon, who don't level up. You start with an espeon and an umbreon, both good pokemon, but they don't level up fast enough to be effective by the second boss (this could be just me though) you are given some other pokemon that can level up, but since the best pokemon are the shadow pokemon, you are a bit lost.
There's not that much to do and things aren't really broken up by catching wild pokemon like in the originals.

All in all, it's nice to see pokemon in this form, but I wouldn't pay a lot for it, and i'd play it in small chunks so you don't get too bored.
