Amazon.co.uk Review
The fourth Pokémon feature follows the pattern set by the previous three--and falls into the same traps. The TV series depicts the modest adventures of Pokémon trainer Ash Ketcham and his friends Brock and Misty as they roam an imaginary world, fighting matches and making friends. The features add elaborate CG effects that don't mesh with the flat, drawn characters, and over-scaled threats that feel beyond Ash's abilities to resolve. Forty years ago, Sam, a young trainer, meets the 251st Pokémon, Celebi (it looks like Tinkerbell with a goldfish for a head). To escape a mean hunter, Celebi brings Sam to the present day, where they meet Ash & Company. They also meet the evil Iron Mask Marauder who's supposed to be a member of Team Rocket, but who's much nastier than the comically inept Jessie, James, and Meowth. The Marauder corrupts Celebi with a "dark ball" and forces it to create a monster out of trees, branches, etc., that is blatantly copied from the Night Walkerin Princess Mononoke. Ash and his friends eventually save the day, the Pokémon, and the forest--but it all feels like we've been there/done that. --Charles Solomon

Synopsis
All your favourite Pokemon characters are back, and are joined for the first time by the legendary Pokemon Celebi and Suicune, in this latest exciting Pokemon adventure. In order to escape a greedy Pokemon hunter, Celebi must use the last of its energy to travel through time to the present day. Celebi brings along Sammy, a boy who had been trying to protect it. Along with Ash, Pikachu, and the rest of the gang, Sammy and Celebi encounter an enemy far more advanced than the hunter left behind in the past. This new enemy possesses a Pokeball called a "Dark Ball", which transforms the Pokemon it captures into evil and far stronger creatures. When Celebi is captured, the fate of the entire forest is threatened. Let "Pokemon 4Ever" transport you to a world of adventure as Ash, Suicune and the rest take action to save the day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Live 4ever, 22 Feb 2004
This review is from: Pokemon 4Ever [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ok, i wont spoil much for you but heres what happens.
Synopsis-40 years back from now, a mystic Pokèmon called Celebi lives in peace in the forest. It is known as The Voice Of The Forest. As it is very rare and legendary, a Pokèmon hunter tracks it down.
Meanwhile outside Sammy-a kid is about to enter the forest. A lady stops him and warns him about the voice of the forest. He doesn't really understand but he goes in.
He is stopping on a log when he sees Celebi rushing past being chased by a Houndoom and a Scyther. Celebi is caught and the Pokèmon hunter is about to capture him when Sammy rushes out, grabs Celebi and takes it to its safety.
It senses that fear is coming and behind him the Pokèmon hunter, Scyther and Houndoom. Celebi calls out and whishes them 40 years into the future.
Celebi and Sammy are still there but everyone else is 40 years older.
Sammy wakes up and Celebi's gone, meanwhile Ash & co are on there way to the forest and the Pokèmon hunter is still there and a Team Rocket member has the power to cath any Pokèmon using a Dark Ball and it instantly raises its level to the maximum.
Can Ash & co stop this guy or will he take over the forest and Celebi turning evil?

Sound-9/10 nice music, can be a bit dramatic(as in sad)near the end.
Graphics-9/10 Also very good, especially the beggining in the forest.
Watchability-8/10 You will watch this a few times.

Overall:9/10- A very good film, better than the 3rd but nearly matches the Movie 2000.

3.0 out of 5 stars good comeback!, 24 Oct 2003
By Austyn (Hull, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pokemon 4Ever [VHS] (VHS Tape)
i used to be a huge pokemon fan before, and i think that this movie (for a kid's show) is a pretty good move if the whole pokemon thing is making a comeback (having seen the new games already)and it's not the kind of thing most people are likely to buy, but if you come across it, it might be worth a look for younger kids anyway

5.0 out of 5 stars The best yet!, 13 Aug 2003

It's a shame when big production companies release top films like this on DVD and VHS before letting it mature at the cinema. Usually, films in this situation simply slip by unnoticed. This shouldn't!

This film focuses on Celibi, who is a rare Pokemon to say the least. (The title is actually Celibi's Timeless Encounter.) It travels back in time and somehow brings along a stowaway, in the form of Jesse and James' offspring! This causes loads of confusion, and a great adventure begins.

As far as the animation goes, it's actually taken a step up from the previous film. This is another reason why I can't understand how Warner Bros. could have seen sense in going straight to DVD and VHS. The sound is thumping Dolby Digital 5.1, and it really suits the film to a tee.

The bonus features that have been confirmed are pretty cool too! Trailers, quizes, animation outtakes, and a deleted scene that was translated from the original Japanese version, but then cut for fears that it was 'unsuitable'. That means violence, then. Also, because Warner Bros. couldn't decide what to do with Pokemon 4, (they originally weren't going to fund it and make up new lines in the following series' to explain the random new Pokemon and events,) we're now two whole films behind the Japanese. They're enjoying Pokemon 6! Interestingly though, we get a teaser of the fifth film in the saga. And it's been translated into English! Looks like the studio have been working overtime while working on two films! So Pokemon 5 can't be far off... (It'll take at least a year for the sixth movie to begin translation though...)

Anyway, overall this DVD is well worth a purchase if you liked the previous trilogy of films. It's pretty darn cool!
