Book Description

"Number 1 Amazon best-seller"

Ben Coulter's first novel is heartbreaking at times, humorous at others, and a hard and gritty epic throughout. Poisoned Saints takes you inside the growing drug epidemic in the UK, with first hand experience and unapologetic detail from the author. Saints takes you on a journey of mystery and suspense, whilst keeping you company with true-to-life drama and facts along the way. Get prepared for an exhilarating ride into what's really going on outside your door, but be warned, once you start reading you will not be able to stop.

Charlie is a cocaine distributor living in a run-down London overspill, but when he discovers his top dealer shot to death, Charlie must find the killer and a way out, whilst losing the tail of Detective Jack Cloud in order to flee the country with his lover and a clear conscience .

"Loved it from the minute I started it. Had me gripped the whole way through. Did not want this to end could have read this forever..."

When ambitious yet troubled Drug Dealer Charlie Paccadillo discovers one of his top cocaine distributors mysteriously shot to death, his world is thrown into disarray. Alice, an unassuming single mother with connections to a rival crew of dealers, soon becomes his only release from the angst, as he searches for answers and battles to control his crumbling criminal empire.

As DI Jack Cloud investigates the murder in the gritty London overspill town of Stambro, Charlie quickly becomes his chief suspect. Looking to solve his first shooting, career driven Jack will stop at nothing to get the job done.

Can Charlie find a way out or is he in too deep to turn back? Will Jack find the real killer? The clock is ticking and the pressure's on, every decision counts in a world where life is cheap and reputation is king. The street is always watching and no one, detective nor gangster, can afford to lose.

5 out of 5 stars "Raw, honest and a real page turner."

"This is a great first offering from the author. Fast moving with a number of interesting sub-plots and great characterisations, this is a book I didn't put down once. From start to finish you want to know more. More about the characters, the story and the setting. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who likes modern-day, gritty, crime thrillers."

5.0 out of 5 stars

"Excellent book, very well put together. It is fast paced, action packed, with characters you will instantly relate to.

Best book I have read this year.

I am looking forward to the next book from this author."

5 out of 5 stars "A definate must read!"

"What a fantastic book, it had everything! fast paced, characters you loved, characters you hate. I loved the way it was written and the way that you immediately identified with the characters and how their story unfolded. I could not put it down - I can not wait for a sequel."

If you start to read this book, make sure you have a few hours spare as you will not be able to stop. Written with such brutal honesty, Saints tells a tale that will leave you wondering how many times this type of thing could have happened. Perfectly written and a complete triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 16 Jan. 2013
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book with the intention of reading it while on holiday but, unfortunately, this didn't happen as I had read the whole thing well before I had even arrived at my destination! Definitely one of those 'can't put it down' books that carries you along at a great pace. A thrilling story interjected with plenty of humour. Not only do you want to know what happens but you care about the characters and want to know more about them too. I shall be eagerly anticipating the follow up!

1.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly disappointing 13 Feb. 2014
The first thing that struck me about this book was the unnecessary and irrelevant level of graphic detail the author went into in the most peculiar situations:
"The elasticated snap of rubber, and a smiling glance in its direction, indicated his sperm being safely locked away in their ballooned prison."
I do not personally think that there is any need for this level of detail in such a situation. The whole scene takes place following the sexual encounter, and seems sloppy and a little absurd to me. It doesn't add anything to the scene, it is pure vulgarity detached from any real substance or relevant context.
Still I tried not to get put off by this rather abrupt opening scene (this quote is from the first paragraph) and decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. After all, the author had a lot of positive reviews on Amazon.
I'm sad to say that I do not think it gets any better. The whole book reads as though the author went through with a thesaurus and added verbs to every noun he could find.
The characters are some of the most unlike-able I have ever encountered. Even the 'good' guys are utterly repugnant. The level of misogyny emitted by these men is absolutely astounding and makes for a very unpleasant read. One of the most obvious examples of this is in the description of a so called 'lady of the night' of whom it is said that "her hair extensions and leopard print bra" were "the most noticeable giveaways to her profession". This is one of the most bizarre descriptions of a prostitute I have ever read. I would say the most notable giveaway to the lady's profession would have been the fact that she was `snuggled' in the arms of a man who, really would have to pay a fair amount to get a woman to show him any sort of affection.
