Poisoned Legacy is a very short book. 131 pages, including a number of blank pages and many, many photos and illustrations - so probably only 60 - 70 pages of text. Lots of minutiae, detailing the 'scraps' of evidence found to document the existence and lengths of reign of the various 19th Dynasty rulers. It is extraordinary as to how these fortunate finds and brilliant research have helped construct the history of what was apparently a turbulent 100 years - but sadly the author has not really built a sound and robust understanding of this period, just lots and lots of facts, combined with 'reasoned supposition'. This no doubt reflects the paucity of sources. Overall, this book was disappointing, especially when compared to the author's wonderful book, Amarna Sunset. Not a total disappointment - the book is very lavishly illustrated, with interesting photos on almost every page, supported by maps and several scholarly appendices.
