“A grade-A plot – the best Christie in years”
San Francisco Chronicle

Product Description

A young doctor has been shot in broad daylight by his jealous wife…

Lucy Angkatell invited Hercule Poirot to lunch. To tease the great detective, her guests stage a mock murder beside the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the victim plays the scene for real. As his blood drips into the water, John Christow gasps one final word: ‘Henrietta’. In the confusion, a gun sinks to the bottom of the pool.

Poirot’s enquiries reveal a complex web of romantic attachments. It seems everyone in the drama is a suspect – and each a victim of love.

Fullest Christie novel cum mystery 29 May 2012
By Commenter77 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
My first experience with this rather unique entry in the Christie catalog came by way of the televised adaptation of the novel. That took me to the book. She has really done it here with layered and interwoven characters. It treats one to the country house weekend plus private venues of principal characters. Do also see the video amongst the Poirot collections - David Suchet, Sarah Miles, Edward Hardwicke, Megan Dodds, et al.

Usually stiff upper lips begin to quiver as close contact with murder, adultery and cover up manages to faze the usually jaded upper set. Christie takes you beyond the everyday surface of these characters as their shared experience shakes them to their respective cores. Their true measures are taken as family ties and casual relationships bear the stress test of reckoning with an event they cannot delegate or dismiss. No one is left unaffected and surprises await. It is edgy good.

The stream runs much deeper here as Christie plumbs the depths of her characters -- something not done quite so thoroughly before. This is not one to quibble over book versus video -- they are both thoroughly diverting and effective.
